Title: World Test XI 2012

I confess, working bank holidays is boring...  anyway, what thoughts do people have on this - if you were selecting a world test XI as of today, who would you include?

I agree with most of the test side as they have gone on 2011/current form.
Bell for me is a must as he has started to show his incredible style for batting, although his observation skills of when the balls goes for a 4 needs a bit of work!  ;)
The only thing I would possibly change is possibly Bravo - he is currently at 6 in batting (normally bats at 4) He has been in great form but two questions I am asking myself....

1. Would I rather have a decent all-rounder at 6 instead, like Watson? or Kallis? Or even a Trott/Hussey who can bat brilliantly but pitch in with some bowling before the new ball is due? Or possibly a Bresnan who can bowl brilliantly on his day and can bat very well (Bres @ 7 and move Prior to no6?)

2. If I were to put a pure out and out batsman in at 6 (like Bravo is) then would Tendulkar or Sangrakhara not be a better option? Granted that Bravo has had a great start to his test career but against Bangladesh? Plus Sachin and Sanga could never really be discounted!!!

One last question would be KP? As good as he is when on form and when under pressure, could I have him in the team? Granted that he has shown superb form in the later stages of 2011 (to average 73 is amazing) but he was in bad form earlier on! Again, would I bat him above Tendulkar or Sanga?
Not a straightfoward choice!!

I would change them a little and have the following:

1. Cooke
2. Trott
3. Dravid
4. Tendulkar
5. Kallis
6. Bell
7. Prior
8. Broad
9. Steyn
10. Ajmal
11. Anderson

Or could open with Kallis or Dravid and move the others around!!

The only other issue I have is where to put Sangakkara! He doesn't want to keep, and yet he is an epic batsman!
If he was happy to keep then I may of put him replacing Prior, which would be unfair for Prior as he's been mainly brilliant behind the stumps and averaged almost 65 with the bat! HUGE DILEMMA!  :(

there are a few aren't there.  I think I'd select on current ability rather than specifically 2011 performance, and that tends to get Sanga in with the gloves.  Makes a batting order tricky given that you have seven (I've gone for Watson as an all rounder because I think he offers enough as a fifth bowler, and because there was no other obvious opener to select) I would not, personally, pick Broad over Bresnan, I have to say - not just because I'm a died in the wool Tyke but because Broad was awful until the last four games.  So, for me:

Cook
Watson
Trott OR Dravid
Bell
Bravo
Sangakkara
Misbah-ul-Haq
Bresnan OR Broad
Steyn
Anderson
Ajmal

Not sure anyone can have Philander in their squad based on 3 test matches.... ??? It's over the year isn't it?

I'd say that the most damning thing about that article is that not one England player is considered good enough for the odi team.

I think that's fair though, the only person consistent enough is trott yet most us want him out of the team?

I don't hes easily our best player now Strauss has given it up. I would quite like to see Prior in the team aswell.

Prior can't even get in the England side!

I agree, trott is by far are best odi batsman but I don't think many others like him in the one day format.

Wow, how is there no English player in the ODI XI - and how can they not include Vettori?

I would suggest that there is a pretty good reason for it.

Sorry thought you meant the World XI!

Morgan would be there or thereabouts when fit in my opinion. No need for Yuvraj AND Afridi unless all matches are played on bunsens! And then I'd leave out Johnson

My world XI, say I was picking a team to win me the ashes.

1. Sehwag
2. Cook
3. Trott
4. Kallis
5. Tendulkar
6. Bell
7. Sangakarra (WK)
8. Anderson
9. Ajmal
10. Tremlett
11. Steyn

I know Tremletts probably controversial, but meh.

Others who are close are KP, Dravid, Bravo, Vettori. Cant think of many other quicks. Patterson and Philander are too new, while I guess Morkel and Broad might be up there.

After the 2011 he's had, not sure you can justify punter in there CD - I know form is temporary and class is permanent and all that, but I thought the idea of this XI was for it to be based on 2011 performances

Is based on 2011 performance?

My bad then, have fixed it :)....and fixed Zaheer Khan part too!
