Title: Adidas not doing bats.
Post by: Hads45 on January 03, 2012, 05:47:33 AM
Adidas I have heard (although I wont say its factual yet) are no longer doing bats as of next season.

Bell and PIeterson will no longer be using Adidas.

I think Tendulkar is still going to use an adidas bat,  but there not manufacturing them anymore

Do they manufacture them at the minute? I thought SG did

There is a new range for the 2012 UK season, but it could be for Australia. We will see though

Most uk cricket retailers stock the 2012 range

quite ironic marketing for Adidas, KP and Belly don't use Adidas bats and S10 doesn't use Adidas softs, hopefully they might just go back to making shoes and we can get the England Team in some traditional cricket whites

Bell has already moved to Kook.

Who will K.P use then ???  ???

KP will use either GM, GN, Kookaburra or Puma as other brands aren't big enough to afford him. I think Puma as he doesn't suit any of the other brands.

Maybe gray nicolls, I think from this years range he could use the powerbow or the oblivion... :-[

I'd guess Nike could afford him. But who would be willing to pay his high demands? His stock has fallen significantly since Adidas took him on.

I don't think kp would use Nike.
They only do bats no softs I think he'd want a brand that do the works ...

You really think KP cares about having matching cricket gear? It'll be who pays the most.

Contracts with Nike/Puma/Adidas also include leisure wear (a bonus)

Gotta be Puma they need some big stars to sponsor, and certainly have the money.

Adidas renewed the England contract for teamwear in December

I reckon Puma. Haven't really got any massive names on board except Brendon McCullum and Yuvraj

They have a lot of Aussie domestic (not massive yet) players using Puma kit in the BBL (North, Finch, Maxwell...), and a fair few Indians in IPL last year (Tiwary, some Deccan players).

if he really is going to be a free agent, I think ss or sg might try to sign him up as he will be playing a load of ipl cricket

I think KP with a Mongoose would be a sight to behold and worth the price of admission alone.  Can't see it happening unfortunately though...

What about Broad then? Won't he still be using his Libro in 2012?

here's a thought - who has actually seen an Adidas bat being used in a club game?  a few of our U11s have the Kashmir versions, but seniors?

Nope, never. Same with Puma, I think seasoned club cricketers regard them as a football make and refuse to go near the cricket stuff.

Our former first team skipper uses an Adidas Libro and a guy of around the age of 20 uses a Puma in our first team. An opposition player also hammered us all round the park with a Puma that I can't quite remember the model of, was too busy holding my head in my hands until he finally feathered a catch to me.

I know what you mean though, I think these brands will need to be around for at least another 5-10 years before most adult players will take them seriously as a bat brand. Our local paper handing out Pumas as weekly prizes might help though...

I think most club cricketers see past the gimmicky image that Adidas bats have and the fact that for the price they go for you can buy better looking 'Proper Cricket' brands for half the price. The eBay fakes mustve contributed as well.

Most of our team use Gray Nics or GM, especially GM with them being made in Notts and that

Do I sense a "what bat brands are used by your team thread"??
Off the top of my head we have 2xM&H, 1x Adidas, 2x Puma, 1xblank, 1xGM, 2xNewbery, 1xGN, 1x Kook. That's best on our most regular 1st team that isn't very regular!

Ian Bells brother uses all Adidas kit haha!
To give him some credit he looks the dogs in it
Wonder if he'll move to kookaburra with his brother ;)

puma bats i have a lot more respect for, it was after all formed when they bought out Julian Millichamp's M&H Australia, and they have quality in Rob Pack at the moment, but agreed, adidas has no pedigree behind it, just being contract made by SG.  I picked up a pellara from the Pro Direct xmas sale, just out of curiosity, to be fair it picks up nicely and knocks in nicely, but no way would i ever had bought one at rrp. and it's a really skinny bat by today's sizes
