Firstly may I say that I am never plumb!! ::)
Well more often than I should be... This season I am determined to very rarely get out LBW. It has been a problem that has plagued me through the years.
I take leg guard as my trigger is a half a step forward and across. I wear a helmet so keep my head nice and still and I have a nice upright stance. I also make a point of batting outside of my crease as to try and minimise this problem.
Any help and advice would be great to try in the nets before the season starts. As I dont wanna have to knock in another pair of pads!
Thanks in advance

ive only been given out LBW twice in my 10 years of cricket! the best thing to do is just watch the ball, dont worry about your trigger movements or stance. just concentrate on hitting the ball and staying positive. i have a very straight on stance, so technically a candidate to LBW, and i have only been given out twice, (both sweeping!)

Play down the line of the ball - don't play across your pad. Unfortunatey if you get a jaffa that deceives you, there's not much you can do.

1) Make sure your club has a decent umpire
2) use your front elbow to maximise straight bat swing

or you could hit the ball, just putting it out there. nah just joking
Heres my clinic on not getting lbw
1. Dont sweep if the ball pitches in line with the stumps
2. Give the umpire every reason to NOT give you out
3. and dont play accross the line if the ball is not down leg.

I had this problem when taking middle stump guard. Now i take leg and it seems to have solved it for me. However, as you walk across your stumps you're effectively on middle anyway (or even off stick).
I'd try: a) not walking across or b) starting outside leg.
Someone at our club takes guard outside leg stump - it looks a bit wierd, but it seems to work for him.

Without seeing you bat it sounds like you may be planting your front pad down the line rather than to the side of the ball... Or you may be getting your head to much to the offside.... One can obviously cause the other... Try to find the symptom then find what is causing it ...thats how i was taught to think and coach.... The symptom usually has a seperate cause... When im out I usually have an idea what I did wrong but will often talk to the league umpire and other batsman to get input on what i did in from their perspective....
I try to take stuff in but not over complicate my game.... I would say never be afraid to ask someone to just take a look at you even if its just one of your mates, because your problem is probably something so simple.

I give very few LBW's because very few are out. This is perhaps a lesson many umpires should learn and it is more difficyult to give them when someone is batting down the track a bit.
On reflection over the last three season I have given more LBW's to those who bat on leg or two legs than middle simply because the first movement is often across in front of the stumps.
So why not take middle and if your first movement is across then you put doubt in the umpire's mind (or should). So take middle and in the nets practice that nice little shot to leg for anything a little straight. Often a few runs there early on and I don't mean play across the ball for that shot early either.
Folks I say this to often say they will get bowled around their legs. Hmmm that is why I have suggested practicing the push into the leg side. You will also be surprised how batting on middle will entice you to play in a slightly new more proper manner.

Have you ever found that your trigger movment is too big ?
like you move across wayyyyy to much and struggle to play your shots ?
