Title: Drying with a Scuff Sheet
Post by: Joe on January 04, 2012, 09:20:27 PM
Right, for once I have done a bit of research before posting a seemingly ludicrous topic. If the main downside of an over dried bat is that the face will crack and the bat will snap. Now surely if you put a scuff sheet on a bat, which would prevent any moisture being lost from the face, and then placed it by a radiator or something, it would lose moisture and dry out and get lighter, but the face of the bat would not be affected, so it would be fine. Or am I horribly wrong?

I'm guessing the scuff sheet stops it drying out naturally. Artificial dryin out via a radiator I guess would still affect it.

I would say the same. If you place your bat in a warm area (ie. radiator) then the moisture will slowly evaporate working deeper and deeper in to the willow depending how long its left there. Prolonged durations will increase the risk or breakage.
