Hi Guys,
Does anyone own one of these? If so can you tell me the sweet spot on this model.
-
Mid-low. Though the whole blade really scores from the central spine area
-
i had a massive one it weighed 3.2 and had like 45mm edges and a 30mm toe..
as above the whole bat was like the middle
-
My M&H Custom is quite similar to the older (nicer) distinction but possibly more extreme spine!
And again, the middle may be mid-low but there is an argument for the length of the blade being the sweet spot!!
-
I've got a very similar bat to what Simmy had, and again... Its harder to find part of the bat that isn't the 'sweet-spot!'
-
i ask Nick to make the old shape, but i got a fantasic mid middled bat in the new shape instead, they won't do the old shape anymore, Hosk if you have one ... i want it with the freddie bat
-
I managed to track down one with the old shape (and with the toe in perfect condition!)
About to send it for a full refurb and resticker so will post compare and contrast pics of the different versions!
-
Where from Dan??

They would not make the old shape as they had quite a few issues with the toe on those bats and hence decided to change the shape to make the toe more chunkier & stronger.
Irrespective of the shape, these are amazing bats.
-
I saw and held new shape the other day and I didn't like it at all! It is like cocaved version of Amplus and tad lower sweetspot

So if you asked for the old shape they would refuse to make it?

Unless you as for a bespoke bat and are prepared to pay almost twice the price. (But I am sure they will advise you correctly about any issues with the shape and let you take the final call)
But if you want the stock Distinction, then possibly not

CD there is a massive diff in the position of the sweet spot on the Amplus and Distinction. However, both bats have a really long middle so finding the true sweet spot will be a tough job.

Just received my old shape Dist, and took this pretty rubbish quick photo to show the difference.
I'd say the middle in the New Distinction feels more uniform throughout the blade, though the 4 square inches on the face at the peak of the spine behind it is probably the most powerful sweet spot in cricket. Proper lost ball territory :D

I love the old shape distinctions. I know the newer ones last better...
which one do you prefer?
-
I think they had some of the old shape ones in the corner of the shop yesterday

The 2010 shape was the one I feel in love with and from a nerdy bat point of view has a place in my heart that just made me think 'wow' (I could elucidate the feeling somewhat better if we allowed swearing!). I'll never get that feeling again!
Tbh it was with some trepidation hat I went down to M&H to choose all the gear, knowing that the Distinction I was going to choose wasn't the 'dream' bat I saw originally in a shop in Suffolk...Though on picking up the 2011 model (for the first time in Taunton) I was in no way disappointed as it feels like a 'fuller', more rounder bat. It's also my first super-quality bat (and was a present) so will similarly have a place in my heart. It has 24 arrow straight grains and will always be my number one bat til it dies!
There's probably more fun to be had middling the 2010 model - it has that feeling that it will literally go straight through any fingers so you can be quite brutal with it. If I used it in a match though, I'd probably try an do that on every shot, which is no good for my game.
The 2011 model has enough meat that you can safely remind yourself the boundary rope is only so far away that it's more than powerful enough for anything other than a yardage competition, though I can afford to be a lot more off centre, which is better for me as, for example, I only really scored leg side with crude sweep slogs, and now I can be a touch more measured and can despatch it leg side with significant force at a wider range of lengths.

Dan,
How big a difference are the toe sizes?
-

Anybody visiting soon to find out?
-
having never owned or used one is it just me who prefers the newer shape?
-
Dan,

Not sure there is a lot tbh (I haven't got them with me right now)...The first thing I did when I got my old one was to check the integrity of the toe, and it's in perfect condition, so the notion that the old ones were discontinued due to damages to the toe isn't immediately obvious, though the sheer weight at the point 2 inches above it probably puts too much pressure on it.
-
Johners personally I prefer the profile of the new one, but haven't had the pleasure of using either.
-
Anybody visiting soon to find out?
Possibly in a few weeks. My team mate plans to go down to pick a bat up but nothing in concrete yet
-
Rob...give them a ring im sure they will tell you

I may be getting a used one, waiting to hear how much first.
B'day in march so I may persuade the mrs to put some £££ towards a custom bat making experience.

She thinks English bats cost £100!!!
She knows Lavers cost £50, that's what the invoice for customs says ;)

Haha - Same here, that is what my parents etc think the cost of bat is! LOL

This is such a brilliant shape. Why doesnt any other batmaker do something similar or would it be deemed copying the MH profile? It looks a seriously powerful bat!
-
which shop still has the old ones?
-
M&H

good question. I guess with the exception of Hunts, most batmakers are focussed on big edges instead of spine height. I would love to see another batmaker have a crack at a more affordable version of the M&H.
-
might ask ryan to make me one :P
-
My Insignia isn't far off but you'll need an a big cleft for that spine. Unless you make a lammy version.
-
One of our shapes will be very similar to this profile
