A Shout out to everyone, specially my Aussie friends, what do we need to know about Spartan Cricket and their bats? I hear that Michael Clarke has signed a contract in excess of a million dollars with them. Any opinions?
-
There bats are absolute crap.
-
Interesting. Have you used them?
You in Australia mate?
-
yer mate im here in aus. my mate has one, and one training i left my bat at home, so i used his and after about 10 balls split in half, just below the splice.
-
I know they are Indian made and people hate their stickers but with the signing of Pup they are heavily in the spotlight. Just wondering if any one has pictures of their equipment? I think there was a thread created here a little while back when they signed Mitch J but it was like a page long..lol
-
Just terrible:

Gloves and Pads look ok:

Mate of mine has the SP20 gloves, and they actually feel pretty good on the hands.

They are awful.
-
They are awful.
Indeed.
-
Yeah the stickers are not impressive; wondering if anyone can do a proper review of a bat made by them. Someone told me the bats are made in their factory in Jallandhar, India.
-
I think it's fair to say that more than likely the bats he uses won't be Spartan
-
SS made and have been exeptional, especially good value in the lower models.

Good info mate !!

Not sure if that will work for you guys
-
yeah it does they are awfull!
-
To anyone who sais they are awefull I ask how much have you used them? A bat splitting in half can happen in any brand at any time, its the nature of the business. Its happened to GM, GN, Slaz, Adidas, Puma bats etc before too, its just the way it goes.
I will tell you first hand for absolute middle quality these are close to the best going around. The one thing about these bats is they are significantly a heavier made bat, however I know they are looking to change that next season so it will be interesting how they turn out with a lighter pickup. Having spoken to staff at two large retailers both agreed the middle on these were the best in the shop. At Kingsgrove Sports they have custom made Spartan Bats to players specs and they were close to the best 'pinging' bats that staff had seen. They all had edges 40-45 millimetres and pinged. They were made to the shapes of Dhoni, Tendulkar, Ponting, Pollard and Dilshan, although not all were that accurate.
They are indian made and run by Ian Wills (used to work at Slazenger). Stickers were horrible in first year...they are slightly better second year but still not great. There softs are very good and very affordable for Australian prices. There top range pads only retail at $85 and they have good gloves (even the $30 ones).
-
if the stickers are (No Swearing Please) no body will by them simples
-
As a salesman myself I would say the Kingsgrove staff are doing their job.
I don't care what anyone says, stickers help sell bats and these are just awful. They may well be awesome bats but someone please sack the graphic designer.
-
Is that the same Ian Wills from www.ianwillscricket.co.uk??

The Spartan consultants name is Ian Davis who used to work for Slazenger is this who you refer to?

Yes my bad, thanks for that.

I agree the stickers are terrible but the quality of the bats are good. And those retail staff actually said the quality of the bats were better than other brands, so it wasnt a diplomatic response.
-
that may be true. but when stickers are that bad no body or not many people will want them!
-
nuffies won't buy them, people that know a bit about cricket and want more bat for their $$ have had no issues buying them.
-
I'd be happier buying a custom bat from a UK batmaker for around £200 = approx $300 + postage?
Compared to a grade 1 Spartan for $495 =£330
-
So are Spartan Cricket a country wide sports manufacturer not a specific cricket brand?
-
type spartan cricket in to google and they dont come up. thats not a great start.

Ian Davis is a former test batsman.

New Spartan stickers for Gayle:

-
Are they available this season in the uk do you know tom
-
I'm a fan of Clarke's Spartan bat including the stickers :)
Chris Gayle's bats look quite good as well.
-
Yeah, I quite like the MC one, not too sure about the Gayle one though. Too big for a guy standing at 5'8! :-[
-
Is it just me or does Gayle look like he has tiny hands?
-

This was the picture Gayle posted on his twitter account yesterday morning saying he just picked up his new wand.
-
Is it just me or does Gayle look like he has tiny hands?
I think it's the fact the bat is huge rather than his hands are small. :D
-
That photo is taken at the front of the Quay West suites at the Rocks in Sydney
-
Saw that Marcus North also seems to be with Spartan in the BBL now. Might see him back in the test arena again with Hussys depature
-
Clarke's pink Spartan for this test, have to say looks terrible. The new design doesn't take my fancy.
-
Is it not a special model for Jane McGrath day or whatever it's called
-
Can you actually get Spartan gear any where in the UK??
-
Are there any pics of this Pink bat?

Nope.

Taz Ahmed, quite a character! He loves Michael Clarke, he is his favourite cricketer.
He reckons he is mates with the guy who used to either make/deal with (shipping presumably) Clarkes Slazenger gear. And this mate had managed to get him a Slazenger bat intended for Clarke. I've seen it and it was certainly nice, comparable with other pro bats I've seen.
Since Clarkes move to Spartan, Taz's mate has been unable to get Spartan gear, so Taz has stickered up his Slazenger bat with Spartan stickers from eBay. And because he loves Clarke, he got the fibre facing too.
He begs us to get him a Spartan bat every time we see him, he can't understand why they haven't launched in the UK.
It's a shame Spartan are seemingly re-enacting the 'Cartman-Land' episode from South Park. Ie 'look how amazing all this stuff is, by the way, you can't have it'
-
Whats Khalsa players?
-
Whats Khalsa players?
I would guess a team/club named Khalsa and mostly run/played by Sikh players!!!
-
Whats Khalsa players?
Khalsa CC are an Asian Club (I don't want to offend anyone, that's how they describe themselves) in Peterborough, they were relegated from the Cambs and Hunts Premier League this Summer. I hit the last ball of Premier League cricket they will bowl for a while for 4 :)
-
Khalsa CC are an Asian Club
that makes sense. Thanks mate.
Coz Taz Ahmed doesn't sound Sikh.
-
all religions seem welcome at the club, Pakistanis and Indians playing alongside each other, including guys of differing religion is nice to see, especially with all the hatred in the world
-
Surely it wouldn't be hard to get Spartan bats shipped over there though after all they have shipped them to the US haven't they
-

Yes, this is at vast cost though. The only stockists are in Australia, and with the currency exchanges + shipping, buying Australian from the UK is not worth it financially at the moment.
I know Jason at CSO in America eventually got some legit ones direct from Spartan after ranting and raving about the fakes he got, if that's the sort of hoops someone like me would have to go through to stock spartan then I'll pass.
-
Any idea why Australian market is soooo expensive ?
-
Any idea why Australian market is soooo expensive ?
I imagine its to do with currency variations. That and the costs of shipping stuff there, it is soooo far from anything else.
Cut down an English tree
send it to India to be made
then send to Australia to a dealer/distributor (in most cases i believe)
dealer then sells to retailer, that's a lot of stages for the price to go up.
When I lived there I noticed things made in Europe, or at least from European companies, like toiletries, cosmetics or certain 'luxury' foodstuffs were significantly more expensive. So maybe there is a higher import tax on European goods.
-
The Australian market is only expensive to people dealing in British Pounds and US Dollars due to how weak these currencies are at the moment in comparison to the Australian Dollar.
Prices in Australia and New Zealand have not increased - it is simply that the British Pound and US Dollar have weakened massively. AU$600 is now approximately GBP400/US$620 whereas in November 2008 AU$600 was only GBP240/US$400.
There is no reason for bat prices in Australia to come down just to stay in line with the UK/US traditional pricing.
As an Englishman now living 'Down Under' I remember a time (less than five years ago) when purchasing bats from the Southern Hemisphere was very popular and incredibly lucrative. It is simply swings and roundabouts and, if the US sorts it's economy out, then I'm sure things will swap around again.
I hope that makes sense.

Yeah I saw that....he has some serious willow crush on that bat!!! How good though....
-
Same bat Kingsgrove repaired, again!
I think we should do a bit a batspotting till this bat lasts .
-
love those stickers.
-

I reckon he will use it till it breaks in two mid-game.
Wonder what he nets with. I know it definately wouldn't be this...surely...lol
-
It looked massive when they showed a profile shot of the bat during the test today
-
Looking at Clarkes bat reminds me of this, the Little Master and his bat he refused to get shot of against South Africa

They could just find a bat maker in the uk to make there bats for them. I'm sure the brand would do very well in the UK.
-
Launching in another country is pretty tricky and can be an easy way to f a brand up. Finding the right distributor, manufacturer, pricing and product is not easy task - so I expect Spartan are taking their time.
One company blew half a million on a launch in one country, and didn't sell a bat. It's so easy to get it wrong.
-
SPARTAN were/are still a small Company who managed to sign much bigger player due to a sudden injection of $$ into the cricket side.
Even their main store used to have no more than 10-20 bats and almost 1000 soccer and basketballs. (even up until last year)
Cricket was like 5% of their business.
-
There are Spartan MC329 stickers on eBay. I highly doubt (in fact I'm certain) they're not legit, but for a few bucks I'm thinking of some for my plain bat.

Not necessarily, there were some genuine cadbury ones on eBay the other day. If its too good to be true though it definitely is!

Was tongue in cheek, But yes occasionally you see some on there. Was also a few Nixon ones on there too.

-
ah right ok-might pay Romida a visit this week to see if they have any in stock!
-
They're pants! I snapped mine clean yesterday, only facing 75mph, not sure how or why though, they're really over priced too because of the endorsees they have.

Should contact GCCC in that case and ask if they cover the damage.
-
Not a bad shout tbf, defo don't have a proof of purchase mind you, but worth giving it a go
-
They are organic material so any weak area will end in breakage! If it's not old then it should be covered!
A breakage can happen to any brand bat....the important thing is that it is replaced/repaired if it's not an old bat!
Saying that, I agree that Spartan charge far too much for the quality!!
-
Not a bad shout tbf, defo don't have a proof of purchase mind you, but worth giving it a go
Think I've played against you and remember seeing your spartan bat (MC version) last season, Datchet 3's keeper? Sounded horrible, looked a size too small and thought to myself it was a stickered bat (but as you said you got it from GCCC). Didnt sound right to me.
Anyway, worth dropping a email to spartan or GCCC.
I understand its organic material and bound to break, but at the price spartan charge, I would have thought their bats would last more than 1 season
-
Haha, you know the guy!! Who do you play for?
nah the bats all legit, or from what I know anyways!

That bat has had a seriously good life span, and a seriously good life! Far too many runs with that gun. How long will it last?!
