Title: Shane Watson Gunn and Moore Flare + Player edition with correct weight of 2.7Lb
Post by: keysersolze on January 12, 2012, 07:52:26 PM
Hi Guys,

I got my hands on a Gunn and Moore Flare + player edition bat today, first impressions are that this is a very impressive cricket bat. On the Gm pick up scale it is 3 feels like it weighs around 2.7 but comes in at 2.5 The balance is superb and when struck with a mallet it makes a lovely sharp  crack like a rifle going off.

it certainly feels like a quality stick, the willow has some nice grains but is not blemish free but I have to say the over all finish and feel to it is easily as good as any other brands I have seen first hand and superior to others. I will let the pictures do the talking and get the lad who owns the bat do a review once he has had a few nets or games under his belt with it.

Bingo, pictures are working now. I really like GM bats, to me they seem such a reliable brand that constantly knocks out great looking traditional bats. I'm sure this will be a great bar for you

Amazing bat, lovely lovely lovely bat!

I have seen Umar Akmal's bat which is exactly like this and man it felt amazing!

I hope it goes well! \

Really nice looking bat, shame they all seem to be such heavy weights and have such a hefty price tag.

Nice stick, but for that price I'd be expecting something free of any blemishes.

i agree with Kulli, lovely stick but would expect it to be "perfect"

Are these graded on performance or looks?
Title: Re: Shane Watson Gunn and Moore Flare + Player edition

I suspect they are made based on the density of the willow cleft and then CNC'd to that shape. I am not really sure grading comes a whole load into it.

must be performance but i'd want both at £500

so basically if the cleft density is good but its a grade 2/3 looking cleft its processed as a £500 bat. i dont know a massive amount about the players bats but are they a limited run for each version?

As said above - it better be a serious go-er too!!

I think the GM players bats are a fad. I don't doubt it's performance but you pay £500 and get a machine made bat that is probably just a different setting on the computer, a £500 Laver, Scat and GN etc has the bespoke, handmade quality feel that it can't match ever.

agreed, id rather spend that cash on a M&H or Laver or SCat etc

Let me get this straight, £500 for an 'off the shelf' CnC made bat? The world has gone mad  :D

I picked up a Kook Recoil Players bat yesterday in my local shop..........£425! Even the guy in the shop said he doubted they would ever sell one! Especially as they were displayed next to some gorgeous Salix bats at around the £300 mark that looked just as good AND are properly handmade....

I genuinely think you need your head examining if you even consider one of these.... :D

Probably the most overpriced bats I have ever seen...

Sorry, certainly didn't want to come across as rude, I'm sure it's a great bat and if you've got the money then go for it.....................................BUT £500??  :D :D :D

Just had a thought.......how much do we reckon it's worth after a season of use?

Wait for the season to begin. These will be down to £400 and by mid season around £350.

Around Christmas time I was offered one of the JT Icons for £370, beautiful bat but didn't think it was worth £370.

The bat was just under 2.11 but felt like a 2.9, had lots of clean grains with no heartwood and big bat with a lot of wood.

Saw a GS Epic, 21 grains with half heartwood. 2.13 big but nothing special. Had a GM Icon 909 or original last season which was £140 and had 19 grains and half heartwood...... so £370 is way too much money.

But if someone has the money and fancies something special they why not?

Only GM can confirm that.

If I have understood correctly the players edition bats are made to the exact specs of the sponsored players and I think it was mentioned somewhere that if any of these sponsored players walked in for a bat then they would be happy picking one from the lots made for the retailers.

The bats I have seen of watsons are no heavier than 2lb 8oz.

Like I said, the bats are beautiful.

All bats that I was shown had almost no concaving.

Better to spend £500 on your girl, will get more out of her (in a good way) than these bats.

They are made to the exact shape, not weight. That's why some are weighted upto 2-15!

All GM bats are made to a CNC path on their machines. Therefore all bats have the same dimensions but their weights differ.

Am going to come in on this one here, would I pay £400 pound for it when you consider the price of the kook player bats and GN  legend etc the answer is a definite yes!!!! IF I am going to buy a bat for £400 I definitely want it made in England and I like GM especially there customer service which we have found has always been superb I have found personally. Is it a superb bat with what feels like to me a perfect balance and feel? I would say yeah and i would say beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I sure as hell am going to try and lever it out of my mates hands in the nets this weekend to give a try and i will let you all know how it feels!!!!

What I would like to know is whether it is £200 better than a TK 'pro cleft' bat....If it is then it's probably worth it but somehow I just can't see it.... ;)

Well I got this bat in the nets this afternoon with the bowling machine and an auto feeder feeding me away for an hour or two.  First impressions my mate had weighed it wrong it just felt too light so as soon as I got it home I weighed it and as i suspected its true weight of 2.7Lb came up on the digital scales. In the hands it felt even lighter like a harrow bat. Have to say I have never seen or held such a big bat that weighs so little kinda makes it very special indeed.!!!!!!! And it went like a train big time and probably is worth the money they asked for if you can afford it!!!!!

Aren't all Players Edition bats suppose to be in one way?

Well I don't know CD but i knew something was wrong with the weight when I picked it up as it just felt too light to be 2.11 I will try and get a photo later of it on the scales just to prove it to you guys!!! As it is massive for 2.7!!!

Same shape like all separate GM models, fluctuation in weight is merely due to willow density.

As above from what I hear exact dimensions as players bat but willow density will determine weight

Having read this forum for a while, I have to say this GM bat is the best I've seen in terms of my preferred profile.

I wouldn't spend the £425 - £500, but each to their own, and I have no doubt the owner of this bat will not be disappointed.
