Title: Which Duffle
Post by: Buzz on January 17, 2012, 12:02:27 PM
Hi - I don't really need a new duffle bag, but am thinking about getting a new one anyway!!

what do you think the best one is?

Here are a few I have seen on ebay...

or should I just stick with what I have....

given there is nothing wrong witrh what I have I should probably do that, but I deally I want one with a boot compartment...

The Newberry one I have was great last season, got thigh pads, and everything in it, as well as a couple of bats!
If you put them in carefully you can get two pairs of boots in the bottom of it too.

Salix's one has a boot compartment

What I will say about the Newbery is that although the design looks classy and its a very well-made bag its not as deep as some of the other duffles.

If its just for nets I would recommend it but not big enough for a match bag, not for me anyway!

The Salix bags are made of much better quality material than other bags in my experience - much thicker, and tougher.

For some reason duffles and M&H don't seem right, a brown tan leather bag with buckles fits better lol

Blimey what do the cows eat where you live?! But I'm not a fan of the M&H either. Before the Newb one I used to have a Puma duffle which was quite minimalist but huge!

I have also been looking at duffles lately and the one I found to be best (obviously in my eyes) was this Woodworm one;

Title: Re: Which Duffle

Generally just for nets and indoor league. Did use a duffle for 1 season but had to have a seperate holdall for whites/change of clothes/towel etc and it all got a bit stupid!

I have had many incidents of shower gel and deoderant cans leaking in my bag. Try playing a match with nearly a whole tub of Radox in your spikes, it is not pleasant. Wash bag is a must.

Ah okay guys make sense :)

Nice, I wish we had change rooms too! We just dress up for game when leaving our houses :(

I have MB Double Decker and GM LE Duplex and it is pain in backside to take it to nets.

Also guys do you know anywhere we can get those Adidas Duffle English players have?

Got this for £15 off kickback sports, had a GM original LE duplex before and this is a blessing, big enough to fit everything in, small enough to fit in boots easier and personally i prefer having my bag on my back rather than rolling it. would recomend

still pretty large - in fact almost certainly too big for my needs - but I will keep this one for a bit and see, if fits more than everything in - there is all my kit plus shoes plus 3 bats stuffed in here... the bag is about the same height as a normal bat, with the internal bat pocket about 12 cm off the bottom of the bag to allow boot room

not at the moment, but I won't be taking 3 bats to a game and there are also two thigh pad sets in there, which is a little superfluous too! whites etc will fit fine.

the side pocket is pretty big, I put sweat bands and "stuff" in it!

does it stand up, when empty, no, with a bat in the sleeve, no, when fully packed, depending on how you have packed it, it can... if you want something that stands up by itself, this isn't for you!
thanks canners, it is not bad, just a little too big for my needs, but my old one was a little too small, which was also irritating.
got some pics of my kit sorted now... there will be a few sets of thighpads for you to test next week at the barn.

I have also heard that the Stig is back from the Caribbean 2020 tournament. it didn't quite go for him as he had hoped... :(

Has anyone got one of the hunts triumph duffles? They're 94 x 40 cm so they would seem to be bigger than others.

Just wondering if they would fit whites, helmet, pads, etc in and also if the outside pocket really is external or if it takes room from the main compartment like the woodworm duffle pocket does.

it is reasonable to say it is currently stuffed with a load of junk I won't take to matches, about 4 thigh pads to start with... including some very special custom gm pro ones the stig sorted for me :)

I won't have it that full on a match day.

oh and the grip bag on the right stays at home too!

Just seen a slazenger Elite v145 bag on eBay, seems to be more of a hockey bag but sold on loads of cricket sites. No bat pockets or anything like that but just one big compartment.

Has anyone got one of these, size is 97 x 42 x 42 so seems pretty big.

It's what the women always say!
what, for £14 it would be rude not to? ;)

recently bought a kook performance duffle, to replace my newbery merlin. happy with it: good size, comfy shoulder straps, and stands up straight. Double bat cave would be good though!

Has anyone seen the boom boom 75 duffle. Was about to order the salix duffle but saw that.

Looks to be a bit bigger than some of the other options, but I can only find limited information on it.

My honest opinion is that it looks awful.

I agree its not the best looking, but I'm looking for a relatively big duffle and can't find any sizes for it.

Picked up a GM 505 duffle on ebay for less than 20 quid, it is easily big enough for all your kit and a couple of bats and has a separate compartment for spikes. No pockets though, except a little one for valuables etc. Would recommend as long as you're not after side pockets.

Hello Im new to the forum...first post!

I'm looking at getting a duffle to take to nets. Has to be something with two decent padded straps (I can't always get a lift there so I'll have to cycle sometimes and a duffle seems like it could work)

Wouldn't need to be massive, I have a Newbery gt bag for matches. More about quality straps and nice high position on the back (away from back tire!)

Can anyone make a recommendation?

Thanks

Thought i'd have a look at the boom boom duffle as my local shop had just got a load in - and ended up buying one.

I wasnt keen on a drawstring top, and this one has a 'flappy' zip top. also it is relatively rectangular in shape which I found some of the others to be rounded. In effect it is almost like a 'stand-up' bag - except it wont stand up unsupported.

It is very roomy and i've got all my kit in there - pads, gloves, thigh pads, helmet, shoes and whites - with room to spare.

Cost was £17. The only negatives I can say are there is no separate boot compartment, and also the build quality isnt the best - but i guess for the price its acceptable.

just in case anyone was considering the boom boom duffle, my initial concerns about the build quality were true and it started to split on the lid after only a few games & nets.

Fotunately managed to swap it at the shop for a newbery duffle.

I have the Newbery GT duffle which fits 2 bats and all my kit although my helmet often drops out of the top due to the tie along with perhaps being slightly too shallow and the shoulder straps not being padded being slight downsides.. an extra 10-15cms would have been perfect... Good quality thick material, two largish outside pockets to fit 'bits and bobs', balls, sweatbands etc and a zipped shoe compartment at the bottom, which I only discovered recently!?
Bought off ebay for 20 odd quid posted I think so a good bargain...
Saying that walking in Dresden with all that kit on a boiling hot day made me realise I needed a wheelie bag and there the search began again.. liked the m&h canvas but went for a team slazenger kit bag which looks huge...haven't seen it yet...
P.s. I like the m&h duffle too which looks quality.. but I recommend wheels...

recently got a shamrock duffle and its great. I have 4 bats, 2 pairs of gloves, helmet, pads thigh pad and mallet in there...there is still room to fit stuff in there and easy on the shoulders.. only thing i dont like is that the bat pockets dont go all the way down but you dont have to use to them....personally i like it a lot

Nothing like revising a really old thread

I realise that duffle bags have changed and improved no end since this started - but my search for a duffle bag has continued. I was keen on the GM original duffle, however having seen a few, the size (huge) and longevity (scuffs up a lot) put me off.

Unlike most on here I want a tardis of a duffle - i.e. something small but big enough to fit in everything.

So I have given this a go - the SG ProPlayersPak (the lack of c in Pak would frustrate a lesser man - and me)

I am not a huge fan of the colours - but my son likes them and it has the added advantage that if I left it in the greenhouse it might be hidden from my wife...(!)
Cost - £38 on fleabay.

It is padded which is good and the bat handles will poke out of the top - once I put my bats in there - at the moment they aren't in my cold damp garage, for obvious reasons!

It is small but I think it will fit all my kit in there...

One more picture - any ideas what this strap feature is for??!!

@Buzz - when we next meet (in a future life possibly), I'll show you my sexy SS camo duffle - you'll like it, and it's the right size for you to cram your kit into.

do you mean the ones in the lid which effectively block off the bat handle holes in the top of the bag? - I think that is their purpose! I may put some sticky velcro on them so I can fold them over and use them to hold my cap.

edit - I can't believe I fell for that... argh

Where are the straps?

This has very quickly become a classic CBF in-joke - I thank B3 for this.

General observation of my Supernova; people on the Tube really don't like it during peak travel times. Do I care? Not really...
