Hello,
Thought I would do a small review on the cricket shop I went to today.
Today I went to the cricket stick at Burwell, I turned up expecting the south African that I thought owned the shop, turns out it had all changed hands so the shop was in the process of having a lot of new stock delivered so was very bare, which was a small shame but I suppose it means I will have to take another trip over there at some point.
The stock they had in was all the new gunn and Moore kit and slazenger bats, and as I arrived there was a few boom booms coming out to play. I must say the new gentleman that owns the shop is a lovely chap, it was nice to be ale to go into a shop and not feel pressured into buying anything and to just be able to discuss cricket based stuff.
The new slazenger bats are lovely, real big bats for what they are.
The gentleman was also telling me a lot of manufacturers don't send weights on bats anymore and just tell the customers to go buy pick up and feel which I found very interesting and useful.
I will be returning in a few weeks to make some purchases once the shop is fully kitted out, would recommend people going to the shop and having a little ganders

Sorry for opening an old topic, but i returned to the shop today and it was all fully kitted out now and looked awesome. Had some big scoops in there, a huge powerbow extreme and some nice kookaburra recoils.
The bloke that owns was having a meeting with GM that day to discuss next season and how this season stuff has sold :)
would highly recommend it to anyone

So people buy the bats based on the pick-up rather than whether it weighs X. The Oval shop does this as well, and one of my friends who historically has used a bat that weighs around 2lb 8oz came out with a GM+ Icon that's around 2lb 11 or 12. He loves it and bought it on pick up not on weight for once!

I can understand this and also sort of fell foul of the scales of injustice. I picked up a very nice bat that had exceptional 'ping' and a nice pick up, but doing a few more 'air shots' made me wonder, and I asked for it to be weighed. As I suspected, it was around the 2-12 mark, which explained why on dry cuts and pulls it hadn't been so easy in the hands. In some respects I still regret having it weighed, and declining it, because its performance was that good - exceptional in fact - but I didn't think I'd be able to get the best out of it. Would I have stuck with it if it had weighed 2-8/2-9? Probably yes, but equally, it might soon have found its way into the 'for sale' section on here due to my not being able to use it to its full potential.

I think as much to do with keeping less SKU's and therefore fewer assets sat lying there when you realise you've ordered too many 2lb 10oz bats & not enough 2lb 8oz.

Agree with Tom it's just a way to shift heavy bats.
Pickup can make a bit difference, certainly a GM Icon could feel 2oz lighter than the dead weight due to the higher middle. It's still a scam, just like weighing a bat before it's been gripped and stickered.
