Title: XXX5 1000LE
Post by: toby176 on January 27, 2012, 02:53:02 PM
It may be a little unusual posting pictures of your pads on here (or not?) but i just felt i should as you guys cant get XXX kit over there!

So, whilst in the city i stopped by a little shop called Meulemans with the intention of buying some new pads, which i did!
The shop is brilliant with nets on the lower floor whilst the rest of the shop is on the top story!
Anyway so after about 20 minutes of of decision making (i like to take my time :D) the older, friendlier guy who owns the shop came over and gave his two cents worth! He showed me these pads, the XXX5 1000LE which arn't actually the top of the range pads. He said that they are lighter and more comfortible than the XXX5 LE pads which they were, aswel as being $40 less. So i had a bit of a run around with them on, and they talked me into getting some shoes aswell which i did sort of need! Nike... But yeah, a good experience in all!

The XXX range is awsome, designed by Meulemans and made for them by GN. The new XXX6 bats are hand made by Krans @ GN designed by Meulemans. A lot of the GN players actually use this model restickered as different GN bats. They're unbelievable! Better than any GN I've ever seen, in 2 words, get one!

That shop is an institution, opened in '63 and that family has had 3 generations of WA shield cricketers who have made first class century's, quite unique. The shop has been the hang out for many greats like Gilly, Langer, Martyn er etc.

This sort of angle?

And indeed! Last my mate ran into Gilly whilst buying a bat there once...
And they are unreal!  40mm+ edges on a 2.8 bat and still with a decent spine!
Pitty there so expensive..
Are there XXX6 bats mate?

Yeah, xxx6 is the 2011/12 range of kit, although the xxx5 softs are similar and fantastic, as you know!

i think so, from memory, the xxx5 had grey inside the tip hat and maybe the checkered straps

PS - I checked the meulemans website and as suspected, your pads are the 2011/12 XXX6, very nice, indeed!

PPS - what do the pads weigh?

PPPS - you should order the matching gloves!
