So when I face the bowling machine I find it slightly harder to pick up the length evan though it doesn't vary much, when you have it on the inbetween length of back foot and front foot.
But when I have throw downs and the side arm. I feel my brother does throw the side arm fairly quick, possibly around 80 mph that's my guess only I have nothing to back it up but it does feel quick but I'm able to pick up the length so much quicker.
My question is why is it harder to pick up the length on a bowling machine? and should I just use the machine to groove instinct on shots rather than the inbetween setting or should I keep doing it because it harder and so that'll make batting easier when I face real bowling?
-
Off topic but really want to ask this, is your brother a die hard fan of SRT and have all of exact same equipments as SRT?
Sorry it is off topic but couldn't control myself :(
-
Because a bowling machine diesn't give you any mental triggers such as angle of the arm when the ball is released.
-
Nope that brother is me :/. So if i were able to pick length quickly of a bowling machine would it benefit me greatly for picking it up of a bowler?
-
I guess so
-
realistically the only way of picking up length from a bowling machine is by looking at the angle of the machine itself.
with a bowler you have all sorts of triggers from angle of the arm to the ball release point, wrist position etc.
that is half the fun of the bowling machine
-
Also goes to show how the bowling machine is unrealistic in this sense- you know where the ball is roughly going because of how it is set up... added to the fact that you have probably asked for juicy half volleys at 67 mph ;)

sounds like the batoff setting to me... may be only 60 though!

haha, gentle bit of away swing maybe?
-
nah only 84 mph outwards boomerangs for me thank you very much! I also noticed that as the speed goes up the length vary s a lot more because the machine shakes a lot more

love to see that on you tube, camera showing the speed and you playing the shots!
-
yeah i will. But i need get more dvd for my handy cam. I'll upload mine of 80 mph. It doesnt show the speed, But hopefully i can get one up showing the speed and playing shots the that speed
-
Due to the lack of visual triggers, facing a bowling machine is said to add upto 10mph to the bowling, so facing 84mph is virtually equivalent to 94mph.
I've you net at that pace, kudos to you
-
I thought it added 5mph which is what I tell people but if it adds 10mph no wonder I'm no good on bowling machines just feels unnatural
-
It probably adds more the faster you get... 10% maybe?
The 10mph advice was given to me by someone who has scored a double century vs. a West Indies team that still had Courtenay and Curtly, so I believed him
-
I've been told it adds around 10mph as well.
-
I don't face enough bowling machines to argue so I'll now to your superior knowledge I don't like them as just can't get my rhythm against them but puts into perspective speeds I'm facing as if I do use these contraptions I have it set on 75-80 so not bad for a fat lad at least
-

Likewise, let's be having you
I heard last week tendulkar doesn't use anything above 80 mph against the bola
