Title: Opinions needed on best batting pads!
Post by: Biggyd63 on February 06, 2012, 09:59:45 AM
Hi everyone!

I currently use the Vantage players pads in small mens
Great pads BUT a tad bulky (probs a sign that they are too big).

I have always found it difficult to find pads that actually fit me properly and I am contemplating a change once again,
I have gone through numerous pads in an attempt to find the best ones

What are peoples opinions on the best pads for shorter people like me? :)
Do I go back to youth sizes, or stick with small mens?

Any ideas on which pads to go for would be appreciated!

Dan

Personally I would just get the size that fits best, be it youths or small mens. personally being short myself I have to wear Youths pads.

Have never had a problem with them, except you often get less choice of styles and often they have less protection. But there are makes that sell high protection, good quality Youths pads.

Have also found some Youths pads have short straps so may not fit round bigger legs.

I am 5 Ft 7 and use Youth size pads from M&H. They are light and fit nicely.

Hi, we will be making some pad/glove deals later in the week in both Mens and Youths sizes, might be worth checking them out.

Will be in two levels, the top grade 964 models and the 960 versions too, both excellent value.

I really like the look of Newbery SPS pads, currently I have Arytek elite pads and am really happy with them.

I'm about 5ft 7 I reckon.

Originally I wanted Vantage pads with matching gloves but they didn't have any gloves :( So, I was left with just the players pads!

Im 6ft and have a pair of slazenger youth pads they just about fit but i would highly recommend looking at slazenger as the provide good all round protection and have worn extremely well as ive had them 3/4 years now

I've had mixed experiences with Slazenger pads. Had a pair from about 1998 - V600 Ultimates I think - they werre awesome and I got several seasons use out of them... So when they eventually gave up the ghost, I didn't hesitate in buying another pair in an updated model... which fell apart after less than 2 seasons :( So not had another pair since.

i know a few people who have but loads who loved them, i should probably say the newer models do seem to have less protection, mine are x-tec shield i think and the oad them selves wrap around the sides of me leg and are definately lh or rh but i cannot speak highly enough the only down side is that they are 3 strap and the top strap is starting to dig in now.

I've been through a few pairs in my time, I tend to stick with either Gray Nicolls or Kookaburra, as I find them a decent fit.

The problem with a lot of pads is the inconsistency in sizing and the length of the straps, on my current Kook Rogue 850 the straps were so long the velcro didn't meet up when I tightened them, so I had to take 15cm off by folding them over and using superglue to hold them.

Personally I would try a few pairs on, if you are short (below 1m70cm/5ft8") then a Small Mens would do the job, but given the variances in sizing and straps etc. it's always best to try a few pairs on.

i had a pair of the Salzenger master class last year. only lasted half a season. The bowling machine hit them at 85mph and split the stitching on the front shin. took them back to owzat cricket who refunded my cash. Ended up with some salix pod pro and they are superb. Very comfortable.
