Ladies, Gents & Fattus,
We are working on a great new 'academy' sized bat, and creating a new model around it.
It will be halfway between a harrow and a short handle, handmade with the same care and attention as all our bats, from grade one willow from our own plantation.
Any name ideas out there?
We want to appeal to the 13-16 age range, but obviously without being patronising- the whole point of the model is treating cricketers of this age exactly the same as adults...
Thanks

How about.. The Black Cat 'Blitzer' or 'Dictator' or are they too 'old-school' for young teenagers?
I like 'Demon' but Salix did the 'Daemon' a while back... what about 'Slaughterer' - too dark or the 'apprentice'? too soft... or even the 'Nameless' - the bat with no name but 'wicked' look, colours and stickers which may influence sales more based on the performance on the back of your already very good reputation.. why does it need a name.. surely only to distinguish between the rest of your range...
-
Oooh.. Like Apprentice!
-
Oooh.. Like Apprentice!
Thanks Jonny.. maybe if one of my names is successful.. i'll get a free bat from Black Cat... yours 'optimistic'.. oohh how about the 'Mystic' or 'Magic'? I'll probably be dreaming about name choices now....
-
iuvenes - young in latin, and sounds cool. If Ninja do a junior range it will be called Wakai - junior in japanese.
-
I reckon if I went out to bat with an 'Apprentice' I'd be humming 'Montagues and Capulets' by Prokofiev to myself all the way through my innings
Dum-da-dee-da-dum-da-doo-da-dum-da-dee-da-dum-dum

Comes with a bat cover that can't be opened once married to the bat
-
Black Cat Envy 8)

Continuing the folklore theme, you've already got a Shadow & a Phantom, so why not have a Spectre or a Wraith?
-
So.. is there a winner amongst the suggestions? It'd be nice to know....
-
the cub? as it in the middle, or something like supreme, ultra, ultimate anything like that
-
" Black Caviar " ( or something along those lines). You can use this two ways. One would be for the junior cricket bat, seeing as caviar are eggs and all. Or you could call your top bat ( the F40 I believe it's called for you guys) black caviar.
Also a good marketing angle there seeing as this horse will be dominating England in a few months.
My 2 cents.
-
It's a top horse but no Frankel.... not much competition down under.
-
Catalus, it's kitten in Latin! :)
Or Canale, which is Puss and not to be confused with carnel! :)
-
Or Catulum, which is Cub in latin
-
ASBO - Anti-Social Batting Order.
Rorschasch - bad boy anti hero of the Watchman film "You don't seem to understand - I'm not facing you - you're facing me!"
Saint - classic design for front foot players.
Sinner - designed for more carefree players.

Personally the Black Cat name puts me off. Too many connections to a crap football team from a small town in County Durham

My thoughts exactly. HTL.
-
Bombshell
A word which implies surprise, hopefully players of this age can surprise and impress the opposition despite their age, or least that will be what they're hoping for.
Has a ring to it as well, Black Cat Bombshell.

La Croix .... A Voodoo term meaning " intensely powerful "

Think Mortimer may be a supporter of the Toon army!
-
Think Mortimer may be a supporter of the Toon army!
No, I support the mighty Toon, and therefore I'm a member of the Toon Army!
-
How about Hooligan for a harrow Joker and Scoundral for a harrow Phantom.
-
'Diabolist' for a light bat with a long middle for wristy players who enjoy a bat which allows them to pick their gaps.
Or perhaps 'The Alchemist' for the bat with good ping for its size (sort of like a surprise bat which goes even though it doesn't look it. This could come in at a lower price point which would be more affordable for us younger cricketers!)
-
Trickster or Comic - so it keeps with the theme of your other bats
-
What about Prodigy?
The winner?
-
Wow- Opener, for some reason I missed your suggestion first time on 22nd Feb- it would have saved a fair bit of time had I seen it!
Clearly I agree with you that that's a good name!!
I will have to think of some sort of prize nevertheless.
For those of you that are confused- check our Twitter (@blackcatcricket) for a tiny preview of the new Prodigy stickers....

Well done opener.
