Seeing as my topic has been deleted for no apparent reason on CSF, instead of moaning, I thought I'd come to you lot :)
Ok, if I was to want to buy a bat, but was unsure what weight would suit me, would it be wise to, instead of going custom straightaway, go to a specialist shop and pick out a bat, which would have the ideal weight/pick up, and then decide what to do, either buy that bat, or go custom asking for this shape?
I only ask as the price of willow seems to be increasing quite quickly, so top of the range bats from say GM and Kookaburra are now in excess of £250, whereas from smaller, custom companies they can be far less.
Cheers

i would go to the shop and find a top end bat you like, say you find a GM LE you like and that picks up well and has a good shape and like you said get a bat made to that shape by a custom maker.
-
yeah go to the shop first and pick one you like and then you can get a custom bat made to the same specs, for example vsports ask what bat you have at the moment and if you would like this to be the shame shape and profile
-
I'd buy the bat from the shop, however instead of buying the top model bat I'd look through the lower ranges for a bat that pings and has ok looking willow.
If you go custom there's a risk the bat may not pick up like you wanted, if you buy in the store there and then you eliminate this risk.

That's what I was going for, cheers Tom.

also wieght wise, i'd go with a light bat.. gives more movement quicker...depends on ur build though
I play alot of horizontal shots so lighter the bat the quicker i can get the bat into position and swing

Slogger Sameer here!! ;)

Personally I do believe £250 is rather a lot for a bat manufactured in India, especially as you can get hold of a bat made in the same factory from similar willow for half the price.
Willow prices is the excuse, but I'm pretty sure willow prices are still around the £30-£40 mark. So there is a huge mark up

Aren't Gunn and Moore and Gray NIcolls top bats made here? But are ALL Kook bats made by SG?
-
Arthur - maybe you could use some team mates bats to get an idea of what weights and shapes suit you best.
Yes, Gray Nic bats that are 5* or better are hand made in the UK
-
Yes GM and GN are handfinished in the Uk, I was referring to the Puma's, Slaz's and Kooks etc.
-
Over here in the land down under these are the bats:
Puma: Only the Puma Ballistic 6000 is made in australia by Sam miller
Kookaburra: I think they are produced fully in India then imported
GN: Only the top of the range fusions Vipers and The new phil jaques one
Slaz: Souly in india
Hope this helps some of you aussies on the forum with the 4 major brands

fair enough.
-
I find that its the bats with toe-guards are the ones that are made in india, well thats what bob meuleman told me anyway!
-
Yea would go with going to the shop and finding what weight you like then ask a custom bat maker to make it.
