Title: Up and coming young talent.
Post by: Danny on May 17, 2008, 09:28:01 AM
What talent have you got coming through the ranks at your counties. At Lancashire we have some very exciting young players. Steven Croft, Francois Du Plesis, Kyle Hogg, Gareth Cross to name a few. Both have proved that they deserve a place in the regualr 1st team.

there quite a few good young players in the local lancashire leagues. i've heard pretty good stuff about John Simpson that is the 2nd XI keeper for Lancs- hes been scoring quite a few runs in the Liverpool Comp. another young guy at Lancs that has impressed me is Tom Smith- tidy bowler whos economical and he also can bat which is a bonus!

Yeah Tom's really good got a regular place in the team 2 seasons ago. But has been overshadowed recently by Hoggy and Crofty.

rashid has got a bit of bottle about him aswell. a guy to come back so well after stress fractures of his back in his first season, which meant that he had to remodel is action is prety good going!

Chris Jordan of Surrey has pace and bounce and is a mature late order batsman as well. Quite similar to Stuart Broad

James Harris for good ol' Glamorgan!
Only 17, and already looking a great talent, top score of 92* last season, as well as a 10-for in a 4-day game last season (his first).

Also, look out for David Lloyd in the future, year 11 at the moment, already down at Glamorgan Academy and should break into the 2nd XI this year. He may have had a few games already.

it's Godleman isn't it?

Are we looking at future England talent here??

I thought Steven Davies was going to make s push for international honours but seems to have faded away a bit.

What about Kieswetter and the new guy at Derbyshire who's looking to qualify?

Sussex have Luke Wright, now also starting to progress in the 4 day game as well as the shorter forms.

Chris Nash, opener, not had such a good season this year, but very exciting in the Twenty20s as well!

How's Ollie Rayner getting on this season? Worth watching?

Francois Du Plessis and Dom Telo, both have the ability, to reach the standards of KP and better them, both in similar circumstances also coming over from South Africa and going to qualify as English, both very good batsman at the minute, and have what it takes to push on. Saw Francois when he first came over a couple of years ago, scored 1369 @ 57.04. They are both regarded as South Africas next big thing, before choosing  a career in England, Telo smashed all Kallis' schoolboy records as well I believe.

Is it just me or do England tend to coax South Africans away from their home country and convince them to play for England?

It's more of the way things are run in South Africa which players don't like. The ECB have nothing to do with it,  they make the choice themselves.

Ive been watching Du Plessis at Lancashire recently and I really like him. Looks a good quality player. Won the Roses game for us at OT earlier on in the season. He reminds me a bit of Vaughan when he bats. Looks to be a good cricketer in the future.

Not played too much to be honest, just no space in the team. Tom Smith the 2nd XI skipper has been getting a regular game in his spot
Title: Re: Up and coming young talent.

Definetely worth watching then. Why if they were both regarded as south africa's next big thing didn they decide to qualify as English?

Apparently the board over there is really bad. Probably the sensitivity to racism in selection of teams is a factor as critisism of players over there is worse than anywhere in the world. and i think even the most hardened cricketer would have trouble coping with that.

I think the coloured policy has something to do with it. Didn't they leave Nel out because the had to pick a coloured player instead? Don't they eventually have to field a whole coloured side?

Back on topic Paul Horton is going to be class! Looking like being the next Michael Atherton. Scored 137* against Yorkshire and still going in the current LV Championship Match. He is a really good player. Ill link you up with a video of his innings, im sure you will be impressed. A future England Test Match player without a doubt.

oh no just what we need another atherton i thought the idea was to score runs ;)

Honestly atherton was a great player one of the best in the last 20 years. But cook and an atherton type player would it really work?
Title: Re: Up and coming young talent.
Post by: Danny on June 01, 2008, 08:04:17 PM
Yeah of course it would. He is more aggressive than Atherton was. He plays beautifully through the covers and is very strong off his legs. Class act and would fit in the England side perfectly. Then again im biased being a Lanc and all.

Why wouldn't we want another Atherton?  He was a class act. Haven't really heard names of any stand out players up north yet, will keep you informed...

Well, he's decent...but not world class.  He plays Durham 1's and 2's but I don't get to see him much.

Wasn't Hamilton Brown england under 19 captain but turned up drunk or something like that and got stripped of it?
Anyway he is a good player ad his off spin is decent to.

Aye, he looks like a one for the future.  Rammy Singh from Durham Academy is definitely one to watch, he's only 15 but has a bright future.
