Guys, I'm interested in a Surefire as I'm looking for a traditional bat with thinner edges, light pick up and mid to low sweetspot (admittedly the pick up will be a little compromised by the mid to low middle). Other than the Aussie guy who preferred the Paradox, has anyone used and liked the Surefire?

I've used one shortly and it was lovely! Pick-up wasn't too bad tbh.

I guess the Newbery would work...leaning towards a Redback at the moment based on positive comments on here and also just to be a little bit different from the rest of my team mates who wont have heard of Redback...you know how it is!

I think it's pretty difficult to find a redback with bad ping, or a bad one full stop! Was a very good bat, just a bit wrong for my style of play ???

and Richard Davis did use Newbery bats, so possibly even being truthful...

I have had two and they were both very good.
One of them right up there as one of the best bats i have had.
Also Gary is excellent and if he does make you a bat you can talk to him about height of the middle and things

if the redback isnt the way to go for you i have 2 mjolnir profiles bats which i should be listing on here later today. Hopefully gary will sort you out but if for some reason he doesnt let me know.

Played there before! A very scenic setting to play cricket in! I have played for Carnforth for the past 11 years and played a couple of times there when we played in the Westmorland League.
I've had a Redback before and you won't be disappointed. Very nice.

Thanks TLB, it is a fabulous setting. I've played at Carnforth a few times over the years and also enjoyed playing at a proper league cricket ground! Love the electronic scoreboard too. I never scored any runs there but have been involved in some close games.

Hey Pete! nice to see u online... off topic but the bradbury is coming on a treat with extra knocking in.. I love the profile and going hopefully into nets on Thursday. Sounds like your search for this season's bat is truly on....

The Laver is on order so will post pics when it arrives...it wont be pretty, but hopefully it will perform. The Surefire is pretty, just waiting for Gary at Redback to come back to me on a query. How many bats do you have in total, mate?

Umm. well 5 lined up for this season for both formats although opted out of the Indoor Winter League as it runs at my school:
T20 - Newbery Uzi and/or Warsop Platinum Peerless
40 Over - Salix Rogue, Woodstock Platinum Curve XL and your Bradbury M500
To be honest, I used the Uzi in both formats last year although it has a shorter blade.
Reflecting on my range it's a bit of a 'classic' line up and always seem to be marvelling at the newer brand bats e.g. H4L, Black Cat etc as well as other well-loved brands e.g. Laver or M&H.
I'd love to have a bat from all of them if I could like one of the members here (100 plus bats or so - pete hosk, I think,) but I'm not that well-off or quite mad about batting yet although, I love it!

That's not a bad collection. Believe it or not, I'm currently only on one bat, a handmade bat sourced from Martin Speight (ex-Sussex and Durham) and under his old SCS label. I am awaiting my L&W though and just about to spend foolishly on a Redback!

Pete could you please tell me more about BLCC as it's something I may look to do in the future.
Also I have a Redback Paradox L.E, it's a fantastic bat!

BLCC is actually BEWCC, Bar of England and Wales Cricket Club, and is a team made up of predominantly barristers, although there are two solicitors in the squad, one of them being me. We play in international competitions every two years and also in friendlies in England in between competitions. The team started in 2007 and I gained a place in the squad through attending trials. There is a BEWCC website, although it is not a fabulous site! Interested potential new players are always welcome and there are regular net sessions in London. Whereabouts are you based?

The standard in the international competitions we play in is very good, particular last summer in Barbados. I would say that three or four players in each team could comfortably play minor counties, particular in the West Indies, Pakistan, Australia and India lawyers teams. Australia even had a couple of ex-first class in their squad. I would say that the overall standard is that of very good league cricket.
In the British team, I would say we have two stand out batsman that could play minor counties and another four or five very good club players. We could do with a couple of seriously quick strike bowlers more than anything else.
