Is a shock doctor box worth spending the extra money on? Do they offer less pain when being hit in that area? If so, which one to get?
-
I bought one today , I am considering doing a review since there is none in here about it. It's definitely worth buying.

I got hit in the nuts with an Aero box from a bowling machine this week on about 65, heard the clunk but the gentlemen eggs knew nothing more about it, Aero box cost me about £4 i think, but I read somewhere they're only comfy with Aero briefs cos the shape

I have this one but in a mens. Really comfortable

If I get one it'll have to be the Carbon Fibre one.

I've got two shock doctors as I wear them with the shorts and after being hot in the jewels at a decent speed from a bottom edge pull definatley worth it
-
i wore a couple in the nets and i can assure you even this hi-tech box didnt stop my eyes watering, it was facing the side arm pro at pace, and damn that thing bowls a heavy ball
-
Canners & Roco - what's all this wearing 2 boxes malarkey!? :D One not big enough? :o
-
My refusal to move out the way of any ball results in me getting hit in the chest, stomach and box regularly so need all the protection I can get - what is this 2 box thing :D
-
go for a larger size than you normally do. I find my mens one abit small.......

needs must mate ;) haha

No wonder you have a fit missus
-
I thought it was normal to have one either side?
-
Box's have not really come a long way in my eyes over the years compared to all other protection. Must be a way of having these incorperating some kind of gel or other material that takes the shock of the ball on balls.
-
Got hit this week. My Shock Doctor has cracked but I didn't feel any pain

Bought one of these today (was reminded I was planning to get a new box after seeing the Kane Williamson video!) so I'll report back in a week or so.
-
I just got the Aero box with shorts, it fits perfectly and barely feels like you are wearing one. Got hit last nite at nets and hardly felt a thing!

ive done the same. needed new shorts and for the extra few quid got the box aswell.

To revive this thread, are they worth it? Or do the aero combination work just as well.
-
I was very happy with the Aero set up, and I have massive plums (I mean massive - think 2 canteloup melons in a string shopping bag).
Due to issues with the right thigh pad, I've got the Aero set-up, with Kook shorts and thigh pad over, and everything stays where it should.

You think the technology hasn't come along way?
Anyone recommending the old pink fiberglass ones from the 70s/80s? :) I remember watching a few opposition players and team mates pick the cracked pieces out of their jocks when they shattered. Eye Watering!
I am also thinking of a new style box and am interested if the shock doctors are worth the extra dollars. I remember as a lad playing that suicidal shot after the event.
-
my shock Dr box is the only piece of kit that I have had longer than I have been on this forum.
which suggests that in 4 1/2 years I have bought too much kit or that the box is the piece of equipment which has had the least research and development of all cricketing equipment.
-
The box is the piece of kit that is most likely to last the longest until it breaks. I still have one from almost 5 years ago (although I don't use it anymore). It is one of the most important pieces of kit but not many people treat it like it protects your manhood.
-
I use the shock doctor and when I have unlucky to be hit I have never felt a thing.
-
Comfortable for an hour or two. Small/ close fit. Once positioned you won't be forever adjusting yourself or grabbing your crotch like a smooth criminal. You can run really well with this. I think anyone other than a very slim man or youth should go for large or larger.
-
The kit badger in me demands I buy one of these immediately. My brain however is telling me that the house needs two new cars so I'm not allowed to spend!

I find that the box hangs out a bit loose on the pouch with aero shorts and moves when you run etc. leaving bits hanging out without you even realising which could be very painful. Hoping briefs and compression on top will be better.

Chris Lynn, who's currently playing in australia A and made his Australian T20 debut recently wears a titanium box after he had an extremely close call.

How do you know that?
-
I use this, really good protection...got hit couple of times, but no damage :)

He works for CA as a Box-Buffer, so he should know.
-
In terms of needless items (for an old guy married with kids) this is right up there. How cool would I look wearing a carbon fibre box lol - just wish I could wear it on the outside (Redders no).
-
Quite fancy trying one, - anyone got one for sale they don't need anymore?
