Title: Keeping your whites shiney white
Post by: mike73 on March 16, 2012, 11:03:45 AM
Every year in our house we have a shedload of whites to keep clean. I play saturdays and my two sons play three or four times a week, and its usually me that ends up scrubbing the stains out of the whites.

I'm just wondering if anyone has some kind of trick to cleaning their whites or some special method.
Do you soak and then scrub or do you just wash and go??

I usually put some fairy liquid on the particularly bad patches and scrub and then somtimes soak in washing powder and then wash in the washing machine, but after all that, some stains particularly ones from clay, leave a grey stain.

I always think there must be an easier way to do this.  >:(

Thanks,
Mike

Canners unwraps a new set before each match, a bit pricey but his image has to be maintained....

I (well The nanna or my missus) uses Vanish powder and warm water in the sink overnight.
Then another scoop in with the wash.

I'll to try a scoop of vanish then, see if that helps.

I once read somewhere, that someone used white spirits on grass stains. Not sure if that sounds like a good idea really.

I would have thought that someone would have some vintage cleaning trick, with something like vinegar and lemon juice or something though!

I find that vanish and swarfega rubbed onto the patch does the trick. swarfega is a habdwash for oil. if you didn't already know

Treat grass stains with the Vanish spray and then add a scoop of the powder stuff in with the washload.

I always slide and dive around, so I am covered with dirt/mud/grass stains every week. I use vanish/sard stain remover spray on the areas that have the stains, then I use white king stain remover powder and soak them in a bucket for a couple of days. The stains are usually gone by now (90-95% off the time), if they aren't, then I rub them with some sards soap and that takes the of the stains away (it was actually quite surprising how quickly it got rid of stains). Last step is I simply wash them and they are a nice clean white again.

I soak them in soda crystals for a day and the stains rub off easily. Really cheap and much better than vanish

Might give soda crystals a go. Seems fairly painless!
