Title: Australia Tour of Windies
Post by: The_Bird on March 16, 2012, 05:24:58 PM
Just flicked on to see the Windies spinners looking very tidy indeed, can they chase 205 to win?

I'd quite like to see them do it! Although Baileys innings was very good in the heat of the moment I think :)

Of course you would........bad luck :)

A modest total on a difficult pitch, but still too good for the Windies. Surely they can sort something out with Gayle?

Again a relatively modest total from Aus and again some brilliant mystery spin from Narine. Still think its too much for the windies tho...

The team batting first will always be behind the game when they've faced 5 overs and the innings is rain reduced. Well done to the Windies.

Pollard is teeing off big time, even miss hit's are going over the rope!!

Huggeeee 6's!!! Pollard 102 off 70 but gone... Great celebration he had his helmet off before the ball went into the stands. Looks a far better pitch than the previous games but some woeful fielding in the last 10 allow windies with the help of Sammy's brilliant cameo to reach 294/7.......It's set up nicely
Title: Re: Australia Tour of Windies
Post by: awp on March 23, 2012, 05:23:02 PM
That was some innings! I loved that he hit the ball into orbit and had his helmet off in celebration for 100 while the ball was still going up!

No demons in this pitch but woeful performance with the ball.

Wow how are the windies still with a shout in this game?!?!?

This Brathewaite' concentration is stupidly good, especially for a 19 year old.

Could be a decent batsman if he wasn't wearing shoes cemented to the floor

His average would beg to differ, lol.
Little harsh Langer, he's a 19yr old in a very young and inexperienced side, Chanderpaul apart. He's played 7 test matches, and has shown good application at the crease, something really lacking in the West Indies side. The boy's got talent, I read somewhere he scored something like 25 tons before being selected for the WI U15s, so he can't be bad...

Brathwaite is in before his time, but I suspect he is going to have a long and successful test career.

Wonderful concentration and application.

Chanderpaul 69* (154b 8x4 1x6) MEK Hussey 1-0-3-0
120.6 Watson to Sammy, no run, short one
now, down leg, easy to avoid, and the
bee-like buzz goes around the K Oval
120.5 Watson to Sammy, SIX , that's how
they respond to bouncers in the West
Indies. Watson bowls a gentle length
ball, well slightly short of a length, and
Sammy punches this on the up, going
well over mid-off. What clean swing.
And then stands and admires the shot
with the elbow up. Photographers
have got their photo of the day.
Crowds love it too. Bye bye ball
Harris comes up and inspects the
helmet. Shiv shows Sammy where it is
damaged. Sammy asks for a new one
120.4 Watson to Sammy, no run, got him in
the helmet . Sammy has ducked
straight into it. Dug into the middle of
the pitch, just outside off, Sammy
ducks, but the ball doesn't come up
and hits him on the back of the
helmet. he is on the floor. No verbals,
though

do we think we can read much into this game other than the pitch is very flat and shiv chanders can bat for time.

are the new aussies not as good as they thought? is a semi wi b team better than we thought? or is this just the 6th vs 4th ranked team having a good old battle?

I realise this could be read as an argumentative piece but it isnt meant to be, I just feel the aussie should have done better and that the pitch might be a very slow one!

Aussies caught poorly, shiv batted well, wicket is flat. If we bat like we did for the last few overs yesterday it should be an interesting day.

When David Warner's at the crease, cricket's always interesting in some way, shape or form!

Superb piece of captaincy from Clarke, forcing the opposition to do exactly what they didn't want to do, 3 quick wickets before tea after declaring 50 odd runs behind. Can't think of many other skippers who would've been as bold certainly not Strauss lol.

As innings's from No. 11's go it was sublime lol, not bad for someone who was a groundsman a few years back :)

Why do the Windies batsmen knock a bail into the ground when making a mark? :)

On the whole, its been a pretty good test match to watch! Having seen quite a bit of each day, the WI outfit don't look that bad in home condition, with bat and ball. However Rampaul has to come back into the team at the expense of Edwards I feel.

i think the windies are moving in the right direction, they are becoming a more competitive team. they are a pretty young side too.

So australia declare on 160/8 leaving WI 215 to win with 61 overs left in the day, but fading light, could be interesting.....

No central contract for him so he is making his money in IPL...

Think he wasn't considered as he'd already been selected for the IPL. And Bishoo was the incumbent beforehand. But then he got out of form, so they roped Shillingford in. I think? Not entirely sure!

I have been fairly impressed with West Indies during this series though! Roach is looking pretty good at the moment.
Also who is this Fudadin that was in the squad for this Test?

Great century from Wade, put Australia in a decent position after looking like we were in trouble. Wade was 51 of 110, then ended up 106 off 146, so scored his last 55 off 36 balls, which is a solid effort.

Cannot wait for the next ashes series it should be a cracker.  :)

Australia have unearthed some excellent young fast bowlers in Pattinson, Cummins and Starc, a world class young spinner in Lyon and classy young wicket keeper batsman in Wade...

BUT...

The top six batting looks very, very shakey.

Until that is sorted out, England will win again easily.

Careful with the world class with regards to Lyon.
But definitely looks a promising Test bowler, particularly in helpful conditions.
Looking forward to seeing Cummins bowl again.

Already has a better bowling average than Swan.

Averaged about 62 with the bat in this series too.

Courtesy of Dan Brettig:

He also now has a spin bowler he can rely on in most situations, as Nathan Lyon builds his stamina and savvy on foreign pitches. While Lyon has not dominated every innings, and struggled notably in some, he is establishing the sort of record that very few Australian offspin bowlers have been able to boast of. None have surpassed Ashley Mallett's 132 from 38 Tests at 29.84, yet with 42 at 27.83 in 13 matches, Lyon is on his way. Most heartening in his growth is how much Clarke and the coach Mickey Arthur have worked to let him develop without being unfairly exposed by batsmen or critics. The lessons of a misspent first four years after Shane Warne's retirement, with slow bowlers tossed about like boats in Dominica's impending hurricane season, appear to have been learned.
