Post by: alexhilly1492 on March 20, 2012, 02:14:48 PM
IT looks like ravi bopara has signed with SS, he just posted three new bats he got on twitter

Ravi Bopara ‏ @ravibopara
Just had 3 new bats arrive from SS. Incredibly light 4 their size. Look forward to testing them out http://yfrog.com/nwqxjwlj

He must've used the eBay fakes recently then lol. Companies must be aware of players doing this and choose to ignore it.

He was peeling stickers off GMs and sticking them on SS bats.

This one pic doesn't mean GM can't provide good enough bats, just means for whatever reason he wanted to use that SS bat.

Players stickering up bats is a headache and GM did the right thing in dropping him/not renewing the contract - lots of companies turn a blind eye to it.

To be fair to GM, he is very superstitious and in bad form changes bats, he only ever had a couple of Warsops after he signed for GM and as they do not need to sticker bats had to peel and use fibre tape to secure.

You seem to get better cricketing insight knowing people rather than purely observing.

This deal should help him as now he can spend less time faffing around with stickers and more time working on his batting :)

Just seen a clip about him on sky sports news, he hasn't even bothered covering up the GM logos on his pads like the last pic in the thread, just left a nice big white GM logo there!

He doesn't seem like a player who'd be too bothered. SS wont be happy though, unless they haven't got any white pads to him yet(unlikely but possible) ?

you say that about the white pads but in the odi the other day the gm labels werent covered up at all

Don't understand this from R.B, SS do very similar pads, as W.I opener Barath used them in the test series?!
Title: Re: Ravi Bopara goes to SS
Post by: alexhilly1492 on June 21, 2012, 06:54:58 PM
yeah i was just thinking that, barath's pads are nigh on identical to bopara's unless its some odd sponsorship for just bats and gloves or something odd

ugly helmet that.

Interesting point that, and it's true.

I remember when he was dropped from tests, and was playing county kept his GM helmet but taped over the 3 lions badge.

I didn't know if it was cos the helmet was comfy, lucky or if it was a statement to the ECB letting them know he was still there.

Why do SS have such a vast product range? I mean every new play they sign has a signature model
Title: Re: Ravi Bopara goes to SS
Post by: PM7 on July 13, 2012, 11:54:52 AM
And there seem to be so many different top end models, LE, Players, Signature etc.
Most SS bats seem to be Grade 1 with excellent grains anyway.
Which is the best?

I have always been told that the Gladiator was the best model., although there are the 'special' models now like the KP (Pollard)!

Think as said above Gladiator is the best, the bats Pros use will just be what ever stickers they prefer.

Yep - those pads will need more wearing in!!
At this rate they'll still look like new at the end of the season.
I guess we all have bad patches!
