After seeing this stick on ebay I thought I'd take a punt, after all, it couldn't be bad, could it? It's a mongoose CoR3 with a subtly different shape, weighing in at 2lb9oz and picking up like something much lighter. It possibly isn't the best looker in the world, but having given it some with the mallet I thought it could come down to nets tonight for a bit of a test.

But I suppose the bigger question from people is how does it perform? Well, it has to have that Tresco sticker on for a reason, right, but he gave it away, so it can't be that good, right? It doesn't even have the massive edges typical of Mongeese...
Well it's good. It's very good. I was up first in the net, and it is one of those bats that makes a wonderful cracking sound as you hit the ball, and you don't have to try very hard. Now I'm not the worlds best batsman, but it is one of those that feels like you middle everything, even when you know you haven't.
It is definitely one of my better bats, and for a discard (given away for a competition) I'd be happy to put it up there with my best. One of the better ebay punts in my opinion, and in reality, as good as my Laver Heritage. That's high praise indeed...

I think he liked his match bat today, a solid forward push and up into the top of the stand.
I think I saw this for sale too earlier on eBay, how much did it fetch?

£102, and worth every penny!

A good buy indeed.

The pickup on this bat is sublime
-
This isn't a Trescothick bat. It's a bat with Junior SP stickers and Trescothick stickers applied, I'd put it at having been made in 09/10 but refurbed in 2011.
-
I think that much is obvious....
-
What's obvious?
Tim said the listing it had been discarded by Tres.
-
Tom, it was supposedly won in a Mongoose Twitter competition (MyGoose or some such thing that I'd expect you to know about), that I could find no sign of on-line. I was well aware that the likelihood of it being real was pretty low, however, it is still a very nice bat and (maybe because it is nicely knocked in, who knows) it really performs well.

Yes, I remember that comp. I ran it before leaving, but the bat was sent out after my resignation - this bat is probably one of the last bats to leave the offices of Mongoose Cricket Ltd. If not the last. So it is unique, in one sense.
But sadly it isn't a Trescothick one. It's one of the bats which was probably kicking round the office, with some of the few odds and sods of stickers stuck on it.
I'd put it at late 2009. Either way £102 for what looks like a top grade English made bat seems reasonable.

I think what it does prove is that the marketing of the brand perhaps got on top of the fact that actually, when you looked at them, the CoR3 bats were ivery good. As Canners says, this picks up beautifully and is a joy to use. Haven't had many like it! Also goes to show that you only need Pro stickers on it to make it work like a Pro bat, you don't need one that actually belonged to them!
-
Yes - I think as a company we made lots of mistakes. Particularly in the marketing aspect. And that's what caused the demise.
Whereabouts do you grip the bat out of interest? Near the top?

Yes, otherwise, being 6'5" I'd have even more trouble with Yorkers!

I think that's why you get on with it so well. For those that hold the bat down towards the shoulders the CoR3 isn't as ideal, it doesn't flex anything like a standard cricket bat as you have much more willow in the handle - meaning it gives off a stiffer feel when holding it down low. A feel many don't like.

It certainly surprised a number of people today!

All mongoose bats have a splice, but how it is positioned is crucial in providing the larger hitting area.
-
Sorry gents, Was looking on the phone, so could'nt see all detail of the bat
-
Tom, how much shorter should the blade be on this edition of the CoR3?
-
1.5" if it was standard.
-
Folks, forgive my ignorance but what are the advantages of this style of bat as compared to a standard one?
-
This one is 3/4" shorter than a standard SH, so it's certainly not standard....
Had it down at nets again tonight. It really is lovely to use! Impressed the guys there too (different team from last night).

Dear Tim2000s,
I am reaching out to you since you are a rare actual owner of a Mongoose Bat that I have come across. I am keen on a Mongoose Torq, since I can get my hands on a Premium Torq for relatively less price. Thank you for the detailed review of your stick.
Since its been more than a year after your original post, I was wondering if you had any comments on the life of these bats? Do they break easily, do they become less responsive with age etc.
Thanks immensely for your feedback.
