Title: PWs forum XI vs Rob Pack XI
Post by: ProWannabe88 on March 23, 2012, 04:51:54 PM
Ok, so.... I've been talking with RP and simon about this and we've decided to sort out a friendly (must win) game down in irthlinborough one Sunday during the season. I'm looking for 10 players to fill a PW XI. Obviously you need to be able and willing to travel to the ground and maybe pay towards teas and umpires (both tba). There's no way I am going to accept a loss at the hands of the old master and his young apprentice but the invite is of course open to anyone who wants to play.

The workshop will be open before the match and I'm happy to show you guys round and introduce you to the pack man.
The ground is 5 mins down the road.
Hoping to play 45 overs, tea as it stands may be a lovely curry choice as one of the irthlinborough boys owns a restaurant  :D
Umpires and a scorer will be arranged as well.

The venue is sorted and this thread will be updated regular with details etc.
I'm thinking Sunday June 24th but obviously this may be altered due to player availability.

I'm not expecting an easy game as the lads we are up against play Northampton prem plus RP and he knows a fair few let's say capable players he may bring along.
I'm hoping this will be a great day out and a good opportunity for forumites to mingle and socialise in the real world environment.

If you want to play and I must stress are 'genuinely' interested please post here with your details and the type of player you are.

Currently there's the big time (useless) skipper.... Me.

I need a good balance of players and obviously not everyone who replies is guaranteed a place. If there's lots I will draw the names out of a hat for places.

Please state what you do so I can categorize appropriately. I'm a bit thick you see

I'll start off...
PW88
Batting style: RH top order batsman
Bowling style: RA spin bowler

It will be on June 24th. Only way that date will change is if both sides can't get 11 but Simon reckons it is easy for the oppo as they don't have Sunday fixture in June

Post by: ProWannabe88 on March 23, 2012, 05:48:48 PM
the definite date is 24th June
Format is as follows guys
The game will be 45 overs
Venue is irthlinborough
We will have a scorer and at least one umpire
Tea tba but curry afterwards in the club house so might I suggest a forum group brekkie and play straight through with light snacks at the drinks breaks.... Fair interest as it stands but I'm short a quick or two if someone wants to weigh in.....

Necking a pint in sub 4 seconds or sitting on the sofa scratching ur balls should score more points pretty quickly...better still do both ASAP!

Hmm... I might be out already. Ran the idea past the missus, and whilst strictly speaking she didn't say no, I did get greeted with a face of thunder! Will work on gaining some brownie points, and will try extra hard if you're struggling for numbers, but if you gave more than enough people then don't worry about saving a place for me :(

Oooh. It's less than two hours from me. I'm a tall swing and seam bowler, who bats a bit (6-11) and can bring enough bats for the whole team....

And I love a curry!

Right lads will discuss hotel options etc and ask RP wheres ideal for a stay over.

Going to collate the interested parties and categorise with regards to style. Then looks as though it might be an out of the hat job tbh. Great to see so much interest though  :D

Well I'm normally considered a batting all-rounder, but if you're struggling, and if I can convince the missus I'm happy to play as a specialist bowler (if the selection committee believe I'm up to the task)

This isn't THAT far from your neck of the woods - get yourself along! Ultimately for any event like this, people have to be prepared to travel. If you live somewhere remote, then people are less likely to take a trip there - best finding a more central location.

CHANGE OF DATE.
Guys I may have to change the date for the match. Would everyone still be available a month earlier on MAY 27TH??

My boss has just told me I can't have the Monday off in June because he has it booked, however there's no pins on the board or a confirmation message, my guess he's just being an awkward sod. Maybe this is better for those unable to attend in June?? Please let me know as I will rearrange with RP and Simon. Sorry for any inconvenience

So as it stands, after drop outs etc I currently have an 8 man squad. Full of batters and spinners haha Roco being the exception... Are there no other members interested in taking part?? seam Bowlers or a few middle order batsmen are what we are short of. I'll Give it time but if all else fails will have to fill the 3 spots with friends or local players

The 15th would also make me a possible - its listed as "Potential cup" in our sunday fixtures.

Unfortunatley I also bat - sorry. I think the nature of the forum leads to more batters as members than bowlers!

Would make my own travel arrangements as it isn't far from me.

Ta.

Can't do 15th July as I have a 'cup' fixture but chances are one of the 2 sides will get there if I arrange the fixture for then. Might just get a definite date from RP and then re write the thread

I nearly made a thread about that the other day - are you more likely to be a kit junkie if your a batsman as opposed to a bowler?

July would be better for me.

My passes out are used up until at least end of June

If you are short and it ties in with the missus and the little one being in Holland, I'm might be able to wrangle it.

Can't bat (RHB Middle Order - more defensive shots than Boycs has sticks of rhubarb)
Can't bowl (RH Medium - mainly down leg so leg slip please skip)
Can't Field (Well this is a lie, but I do have a tendency to take spectacular catches and drop the easier ones)
Can do angry!

Most can. We just get asked to go in and hit when the top order has failed...

Can someone tell me the closest train station ? Or someone could pick me up (Nottingham) on the way Aaron ? :D

RH "Quick" bowler with a mean slower ball
