Title: A classic pair of Slazengers
Post by: 97notout on March 24, 2012, 04:16:28 PM
I have been cleaning up these 1977 Alan Knott Slazenger 'Test Match' model gloves.

I initially put the pictures in  the your kit section but I think they are better for a more select audience of glovemen who might appreciate them.
They are still supple and catch well.
Cost me £65 in 1977, a months wages for a 17 year old kid, but well worth it.

Whatever happened to the buckle on gloves?

I think it became surplus to requirements and perhaps the old 'stumper' became replaced by a more agile keeper who needed to remove a glove quickly.

I remember as a kid seeing keeping gloves with buckles on done up so tight they looked like motorcycle gauntlets :)

Great pics 97no. They are classic.

I remember my first gloves in '82 were Kooks with buckles and my second pair in '84 were Kooks without buckles.
Wish I still had them.

Thanks,

According to Simmy who seems to know his stuff, Wymer worked for slazenger for a while.

I've managed to source another pair of the red ones and some white Alan Knott 'club', will see what they're like and how they turn out.

I've decided to use the ones in the pics as my main glove this season. :)

Sure did, used them for a couple of years when I bought them, they have been refaced and I'm going to give them a try tomorrow night at nets.

You've done a good job cleaning them up!

And probably got your moneys worth of £65 if they're still in good nick!

How were they in nets?

Glad gloves haven't inflated over the years, a 17 year olds months wages would be make gloves a scary amount!

Loved them, ball sounded good going into them and they were really comfortable.

Final decision to use them as match gloves. Life is good (at the moment)
