Title: advacing down the pitch and lofting the ball
Post by: adam1312 on April 15, 2012, 12:28:26 PM
Against spin I have the technique to advance down the pitch and can do it consistantly hitting the ball along the ground, but how can I hit the ball over the top. My general rule is when the ball gets above my eye line I can but don't always go down the pitch. When I play t20s how can I hit the ball over the top or if I need a release shot if I get seriously bogged down.

All these questions you're asking mate, I would suggest you are trying to do too many things to your game at once. Pick one and work on it until you're as good as KP, then pick another one!

If you need a release shot, go down on one knee, clear your front leg, and smash it over cow :D

Why hit over top?

If you can consistently hit it on ground when advancing just work on piercing field as 4 is 4

To hit 6s I can time the ball well, bit cant hit over the top, so how do I do that?

Not afraid to admit that this is my release!
Always tend to get bogged down if a spinner is bowling well; good old calculated moo over Mid Wicket makes me feel better!

don't like just swinging because im bogged down, one if you do going down the pitch and hitting over the top, it is more controlled, easy to hit for 6 and isnt brainless it is controlled. But do you just dont get right next to the ball and swing through normally and it will be lofted?

Lean back and check drive it! It's exactly the same shot just without the follow through. Play it like a chip!

the walk down the pitch and punch for four is a glorious shot, spend your time learning how to pick gaps in the arc from mid on to cover.

if you are advancing down the track why introduce another way of getting out (caught).

if you have the technique to come down the track and hit along the floor... that is a real gift. don't waste it.

Hitting for 6 instead of 4 is just a fraction of a second difference in striking if you time it or have the power just look to leave crease little later and hit it earlier and it should go aerial but 6's will come when in nick but it's about reading the length for me

I do come down track or sweep depending on what is safer and I can hit the big one if needed but think a well placed 4 along the ground is better and a lot less risky than trying to hit it for 6

wilkie are your statistics up to date because for mine it says I played 2 under 15s games last season but i played every match except 2 I missed because of injury and I played 4 2nds and half the 18s games and a few others. None are up to date.

Love how the OP has drifted slightly from
Lofted drives to play-cricket statistics... ???

I'm no KP, but you just play the same shot from under the ball, like a golf chip. Instead of hitting the ball straight down from over the top ir level with the ball, you go from low to high...

This is a matter of practice and you need to spend time in the nets, with tennis balls, having throwdowns and on the Bowling Machine to learn it.

It seems rather ridiculous you want to learn the lofted drive; at club level it's a pretty low-percentage shot as certainly in the cricket I play (MCCL) many people are out caught in the ring trying to hit aerial over it.

20/20 is as much about minimising dot balls and running hard than anything else. You don't have to have the lofted drive, surely there are other shots you can use as release shots?

My club updates ours most of the time I think it's pretty up to date, how come mate?

Would say it is infact harder to play the ball along the ground specially when using the feet.

To lift the ball try not to get too close to the pitch of the ball While  playing the same sort of drives, you will get elevation.

You're going to need some power to consistently knock it over long off and long on especially in senior cricket. If you haven't got the power then don't even bother trying in a match, just keep it on the carpet... you're asking for a quick bath if not
