Title: Coaching tips
Post by: WABH-J on April 18, 2012, 06:38:54 PM
Hello all,

Last night I had some batting coaching for the first time in a while. I've picked up a few bad habits I need to work on and was wondering if anyone had any ideas to help me to remember them in matches. The two pints I was picked up on were not keeping my head straight every now and then, the coach suggested I tuck my chin into my shoulder to achieve this. The other point was that my bat is coming down from an angle (pointing towards the slips) and this is putting me off balance a little. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for reminding me to do that until it becomes a habit.

Thanks,

Will

The only way you will do it is through practice mate. I think Malcolm Gladwell said that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become truly excellent at anything. If you have done it wrong for a while, it will take hours of practice to teach your body to do it differently.

I would treat this as 2 different things.
for your back lift practice at home repeatadly pushing the bat back behind you, with only your top hand on the bat. it will become natural soon enough.

for your head, line your eyes up with your cap/lid peak before the bowler starts his run up to make sure your eyes are level.

you don't want to think about either as the bowler is running in, only watch the ball.

For the back lift problem, you could practice at home stood square on to a wall, then your bat would have to come up straight behind you (as would hit the wall if wasn't parallel to it)

When my bat was coming in from gully almost!
I would start up with my right hand (I'm right hand bat) real tight in on my right leg.
I'll try find my video from when my backlight was terrible!
