Title: Sponsors Bats
Post by: 100 not out on April 25, 2012, 10:24:13 AM
With quite a few sponsors on the forum now, i thought it may be an idea for each of them to post pics of their match bats, you would assume these to be top spec bats in terms of looks and performance, i just wondered what everyone will be using. i'll post my one in a bit.

With regards to looks willow etc I just let RP do his thing. He knows my specs anyway but I can trust him to send me a great performer. I just ask that the pick up is the primary objective

that barn is lethal, thats one of the disadvantages of using a 1.5iinch shorter blade i guess, about time you put some cherries on your bat eh mate... ive heard you like the leave but thats rididculous lol :)

Probably my Powerbow, it was my Saturday match bat in 2012, closely followed by the B&S.

My Laver and Dynadrive have only just arrived so cant comment too much on them yet. The Lion Roar is easily the heaviest and is used for bunting what can only be described as filth in the midweek T20 leagues.

Old topic I know.

But anyway I thought I'd put up a few pics of my beloved before it gets put away for the winter.

Those who know me will vouch for how fussy i am when it comes to bats.
I was very happy with this bat all season, sublime pick up, big ping and a perfect shaped large oval handle. It most certainly punches above its weight.

Not the prettiest looking thing out there I know, but make no mistake this bat matches anything out there.

Slightly delaminated if I remember, a few edge cracks and a split toe. Easily repairable but I was done patching her up, I wanted to buy some new willow. I sold to Leachy for a token amount.

JS wright have written to all there suppliers to inform them that the % of grade 1 willow will be less this year than last so I personally think that we will see less and less 15+ grain bats. Out of my collection though which is mainly grade 1 most have about 7-9 grains. As long as straight, evenly spaced and go straight through the toe that is perfect for me. And also at the end of the day if the pressing is correct the number of grains etc is not really relevant.

Pretty much what buzz said......

the one on the left is one of the finest bats I have ever seen/tried.

The one on the left is the complete package, it looks nice, pings like mad and picks up well for a low middled blade

The one on the right I picked because it was by far the lightest in the batch... 2.5 before grip and stickers and picks up a treat

never really noticed it tbh, but it is very nice and i find it easier to just lean on a good length delivery and stay on top of it with this bat, maybe the handle helps in regards to that

I didn't take any pictures of my own bat when it was new, anywhere he's some of the bat when I was running Vantage after a seasons use. (the one with Volt stickers)

I am using the Vantage Custom(originally a GM Icon+ 2'12), as a comparison to my match bat. My bat is 2'10 and a harrow sized blade(in width and height) with a handle to make it SH length.

This cleft was picked on performance, it has 8 straight grains but it was a lovely light cleft and when it was pressed and I tapped it up I fell in love with it.

Yeah, I believe there are also some bigger brands that are slightly changing the dimensions of original 'SH' bats so that they can make the bats look bigger from a side profile. Maybe this can be made in to a topic to research what brands are selling truly SH length/width bats.....

However I mainly chose a harrow width because I had a BC Joker and I really got on with it - then I tried having a shorter blade with a standard SH width blade, but I didn't get on with this as much. I do think that it was mainly due to the round face compared to a flat face once pressed. It's just personal preference, and this bat has performed extremely well last season for me - a lot of people were interested in the bat, especially with the sound that it made - like a gun.

Why don't people just buy a harrow bat for less than half the price of a gull size SH and then have the handle fitted after.... Ooohhh.... Can.....Of..... Worms  :D

Normally harrow bats are normally very light, or small due to the willow that's selected for those bats which is why they are cheaper. As normally the willow used for Harrow bats are handmade clefts which cost around £15/cleft and these can come in any shape or size. Sometimes you can get a couple of decent mens sized bats out of them however it's completely random - the more you order the bigger percentage of better blades you're going to get.

So if that was the case to buy a harrow bat and then rehandle it - then I very much doubt that the bat would come in at my desired weight of 2'10, especially considering I have a fairly thin handle. The blade used for my bat was a standard SH cleft and so where the harrow bats that you could purchase from Vantage when I was running it.

Just thought I would post a little snap now I have almost finalised my kit for the season. I will make a post in the 2014 kit thread with everything when my keeping stuff is sorted, but I have my bats lined up.

I have 2 more bats than I want really, 3 if you count the middling bat. But I had to get myself a Dynadrive and the vintage Scoop was an eBay bargain.

B&S LE - I will use on Sundays, along with the LE softs. Haven't used it much yet. It was the sample bat used for the B&S 2014 launch at our forum event in Novmeber.

Laver Reserve - This will pick up from where it left off at the end of last season and be my main match bat, I have recently refurbed it which is why it looks in good shape! It's fantastic, in terms of performance and balance this bat comes second only to my now long retired B&S LE, which was one of the first into the UK a few years back.

GN Powerbow Strauss LE - Old faithful, one of my favourite bats ever. This was my first purchase after we started the shop. One of the first bats I ever hand picked, personally signed by Strauss but I don't really care about that, this thing is a weapon. Has only recently been pushed into second place by my Laver.

GN Dynadrive - Not one of the special LE ones we have posted so many pictures of, just a standard one. I use it as a wet weather/backup bat. Decent enough, for the money it's pretty good, kind of wish I had got a special LE one though...

Vitas Cricket Lion Roar - One of our original run which is Pakistani made. I use this for T20 and Sixes, as we sponsor/run most of the T20/sixes events/leagues that I play in. We have pushed a pink ball into these events and this bat absolutely cannons them!

Vintage GN Scoop - picked up on eBay for peanuts. I used it on tour last season. Simmy sat behind the stumps while I cut almost every delivery on my way to 40 odd. Unfortunately in the process the handle let go. I took it to GN who fitted a new one but I lost the original stickers :(

Red Ink middling bat - John made me a middling bat at 2'9 from English willow. It really is great, I have always found middling bats a little pointless as they don't replicate most peoples bat weights, this is perfect though.

No it was the sample used in all the photography. It is the big toed, concaved shape.

As a follow up to this. Old faithful; my Strauss LE Powerbow has let go on me, a death crack through the shoulder and splice :(
She has given me a number of years of service and seen me through plenty of sticky situations, I am sad to see her go.

On the plus side, being a Gray Nics man this meant i needed a new GN bat - discounting the vintage scoop and the Dynadrive which are just a bit of (over)indulgance. I finally settled on this lovely looking Vortex LE. The lack of toe guard and handle stamping suggest to me that this was made at Robertsbridge.

Just finished knocking her in and have applied some shoe goo. Love the way the grains go through the toe. Will post some more snaps tomorrow when i get a chance.

Can you post more examples of this? I've yet to see a Vortex in the flesh, or good photos!

How does it perform? Bat feel any different with the angled edges?

Haven't used in a game yet but performs very well on the machine.

Picks up very nicely for such a sizeable bat, perhaps the edges have an impact here. Not sure the edges have an impact on performance. I am very much of the opinion that pressing impacts performance, different shapes on the back of the bat have little effect other than changing feel and balance.
