Title: Refurb Question
Post by: ca_gold on April 26, 2012, 05:56:19 PM
Hi guys,

I did go through a whole host of topics in this section before posting but still wasnt clear what i should do. I'm in the process of refurbing one of my bats. I started by using the hair dryer method to remove the anti scruff sheet - it worked like a charm. The face of the bat still has a lot of sticky residue left from the scruff sheet. I tried sanding it but it is still there. Question:

1) How do i get rid of this sticky residue - more sanding? leave it for a few days to dry? should i just slap on a new sheet and not worry about the residue?

2) Should i oil the whole bat before sticking on a new sheet, or just stick on a new sheet and oil the back and sides?

thanks for the help

white spirit will get rid of the glue, then you can oil or not before you apply the new scuff sheet.
personally, I think it depends on how dry the bat is.

you can also use a stanley blade to scrape off the glue before sanding. may be worth a little coat of oil before the antiscuff as you are sanding it down but as buzz said see how dry it is

Unless the garage has central heating, most garages are relatively damp.

you may be right - it doesnt look to dry to me, even though the garage probably was -10 all winter (i'm in canada). i did net with it yesterday and it played brilliantly.
