Title: Best keeper helemt
Post by: jimster on April 26, 2012, 06:02:40 PM
I am in need of a new helmet and though i would go for the best one for a keeper as well, was going to go for the masuri keeper helmet, any ideas?

I think most of the forum are Ayrtek converts, and for good reason, poor Tom has to move house tomorrow and get married in the summer, he NEEDS our money....

As a keeper I have used an Albion, aero mask and an Ayrtek and although it's early days for the ayrtek I would say it is definitely the best of the bunch. Never used a masuri as I didn't like the feel or field of vision when trying them on.

I just use a normal batting Masuri, don't think the keeper one is worth the extra money to have a section cut out. Can't believe companies are making you pay more for less!

Judging by the huge majority Ayrtek seem to be the best in the business at the moment, and you should probably go with one of them considering that you could get excellent customer support directly with the man behind it through the forums.

Simmy you really shouldn't say that wearing helmets is for gays, it gives a bad impression to youngsters whose bravado will soon disappear when they take one in the teeth. We've all been repeatedly reminded that you don't feel the need for a helmet but the majority of us do and that doesn't make us any less masculine!

I haven't tried an Ayrtek but I have the Aero mask and the Masuri wk lid and both are very good. It's down to personal preference so I'd recommend going to a good shop and trying everything on.

I love my Masuri wk helmet; the smaller peak and cut away at the back make sense and I use it to bat in too.  I would definitely recommend trying one on alongside all the other options.

I don't like the idea of a cut out in the back of the lid if you want to bat in it too - dangerous if you duck bouncers. (You should be hooking them anyway). I don't have a problem with the back of my Masuri batting helmet when keeping, and at £50 for a steel grilled one you can't go wrong. Plus, who wants to carry two helmets around?

I use my Masuri keeping helmet for batting in too.  I sway out of the way of bouncers, face forward, watching the ball as long as possible.  If I do duck, then I duck face forward to...I never turn my head away from a bouncer, now that is dangerous.

Actually, having tried a keeping helmet on, I'd definitely buy one if I had the money.

Epbs, I wasn't convinced when I first saw them advertised either, but was sold when I tried one on and can definitely recommend them having used one for two seasons now.  They have them with 20% off list price at Barrington Sports.

Thanks - I checked Barrington but I can get one for £50 from my local shop. just need to find a few spare quid... hard to justify with a wedding to pay for

I see your point, wedding may have to take priority...although I hope you aren't missing a game for it  :D

Don't be silly - it's on a Thursday. I have pretty much decided to take my batting lid back and swap it for a keepers one. possibly a daft question, but does the shorter peak make a wider gap for the ball to pass through between peak and grill? I have mine set quite open that's all.

Thursday...good thinking  :)  The shorter peak doesn't change the gap.  I have mine set exactly the same as I had on my masuri batting lid (using the same screw holes on each side) and the gap is identical.  I think you'll like the keepers lid once you've used it in a game...go for it!
