Title: The midweek wet weather conundrum....
Post by: tim2000s on May 01, 2012, 07:43:57 AM
It's 6am, it's raining outside and you know you are supposed to be playing a T20 match after work. You've seen teh weather forecast and it's possible that the weather will clear after lunch, but there's a 40% chance of rain in the afternoon. There's an artifical at the ground that could be used, but you are pretty certain it is going to rain all morning and the outfield will be suitably damp, however as it's on the top of a hill, it will also drain enough to be playable. That's my state this morning...

Two questions arise.

1. Do you take your kit to work with you in the endless hope and anticipation that the weather will come good, even though everyone looks at you as though you are mad, with that quizzical "Cricket Kit? But it's peeing down!" look?

2. What kit do you take with you if you do the above?

Being ever hopeful, I pack my kit up and take it with me, on the basis that the best I'll get is the artificial.... And I take the bat that has been designated the weta weather bat!

Work in central London, play evening cricket not in central London, and there's nowhere that doesn't cost £35 to park all day if I was to drive... So it's public transport all the way...

I have the same conundrum.
In the end it's whites and spikes in a Eurohike with a pair of lefties gloves - i know someone else who is playing who's left-handed so I can nick his pads. It's also about time someone lent me a bat too!
Get to work - cancelled, no big pain of dragging my proper kit in.

take the minimum kit possible in, with the expectation for the game to be off... :(

I'm with Buzz on this one........minimum amount of kit possible! I can't imagine doing London public transport with all my cricket gear. Sounds like a nightmare. I did do Clapham to Richmond for a season but I drove or got a lift....

We'll be on the artifical. No Spikes allowed! And as an FYI, the sun is out and if we get no more rain then we are on!

Except, we have just been told that they took the Artifical out over winter and the square isn't fit  :(

Cricket on an artificial isn't the real thing anyway  ;) A poor imitation!

I'm going for a net after work and have lugged my duffle on the train with me this morning (have to getmit back and stop off at a different station to get to my club) and it wasnt the easiest. Think i'll lighten up the load next time, not sure im going to use 3 bats in nets tonight and lugging up the hill from the station to work was certainly not the start of the day i was looking for

You might have a bit of trouble trying to play this weekend.
How deep is the water?

Not my ground that. I was told it was in the region of 1 foot to near on 3 foot in places. People on the league forum seem to think they are getting a game in on the pitch this weekend. Very optimistic if you ask me.
