Personally I've always practiced I.e. going to nets.
Growing up, nets was once a week. Since moving to Lancashire I've found that all the clubs i've played for have 2 practice nights. 5-6 years ago I'd try to get to both nights. Since marriage and children I tend to just do one night.
There are several people at my last 2 clubs who just don't bother. They just rock up and play on a Saturday. Any one else find this? Does anyone on here DO this?

At the start of the season I try to net as much as possible to work on my batting and bowling, however by the middle of the season(June/July) I find that I have sorted most of my problems due to the amount of time spent playing so I stop netting(plus playing weekends, midweek and netting is too much on my body I find..)

During the summer I can often be at our ground 5+ days a week practising or playing. You'll get the odd guy not turn up and get a 5-for most weeks etc.
-
I hate people who don't go to nets and then complain about how badly there playing, then you tell them they should practice and then they have a go lol!

This, hate it when this happens!

And this, nobody seems to think nets help (the older guys at the club anyway) but the young lads are there at the ground practising almost non-stop!

i net and practice as much as my work commitments/Gf/ weather and wallet allow me to, but the average guy at my club doesnt bother and i am the odd one out and yet they all seem to think they are always unlucky when they get out, it does make me laugh
-
Not netting this year due to work etc but trying to play as much midweek as possible but used to net once a week and twice a week when I played a higher level
-
When I see the XI on the field, most don't bother attending nets which is strange as how they manage to get selected.
I net, BUT I put my family first. If there is a family commitment I deal with that first and skip cricket (hurts a lot to be honest, ruins my day).

we net on a tuesday and thursday...
but with 20/20 season starting we only usually practice on thursday
but with me playing 20/20 for my club and headingley games drop on a tuesday and thursday so i dont net
-
allways net neted and trained you only get out of the game what you put but you must pratice right other wise bad habbits take over and your find you go backwards

I do this, most of my free time is spent netting!

I haven't netted in 5 weeks, any guesses why!?
-
I haven't netted consistently since i was a kid .....I netted once a week as a kid and played around 3 to 4 games a week.
I have mastered the art of practice ...............
What i have ALWAYS done is join a midweek cricket team in a poor league on poor uncovered pitches. I turn up, face some crazy bowling on some crazy pitches and treat the game as my practice session.
Come the weekend i have invariably scored a 50 on a shocker of a track and feel in great nick. The bowling is of a lot better standard but I am used to that and go into my games bang on form.
I now play in a league where i retire at 50, some days i try to go at it from the off as a practice, and see how quick i can get 50 .... 3rd over is my record and some times i practice just trying to work the ball for single. There were two games where i decided i work try to work on getting outside the line of the ball and work a ball on off or just outside to leg side ....... i got 0 in both those games!!
TO me nets are a complete waste of time unless it is high quality with a one on one coach working on a particular weakness. Then its a bowling machine or throwdowns and not a barrage of people bowling rubbish.
Give it a try, it will help you work on your, confidence focus, pre ball routines, tactics and dodgy uncovered wickets. You may also come up against the odd decent bowler on a bowler friendly pitch.

...the only midweek league near me has rules which don't allow me to play in it due to the standard I play at a weekend :(
-
i did have that problem once, played under a false name until another ringer from another team pointed out he had played against me on a saturday......... which meant neither of us were allowed to play!!
-
As a colt I did net every week, but as ive got older and had more and more exams to do have had to stop netting as otherwise I wouldnt be allowed to play at weekends :(

i would have thought you both would have just kept quiet?
-
false name cricket is the best turned out for a friends 3'rds took 4-6 in 4 overs they were bowled out for 80ish batter's knocked them off, easy days work

I practice every week.
I'm not sure it's making me any better, but I do it because I absolutely love batting and bowling.
