Has anyone here went over to play cricket for a couple of months, thinking about doing it next winter but no idea how much ill need to take, where's the best place to stay etc? What standard will I find? Will I find a club straight away? Is booking with a specialist company recommended? Any advice is much appreciated!
Cheers.

I used these guys when coming from NZ to the UK,
http://www.cricx.com/
the east coast (Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne) of oz is a lot better than the west (Perth), you will find levels of all cricket, just as you would here, if you use cricx once u upload all the relevant info on to their website they will give you some offers that are best for you

i played in perth for 4-5 months back in 2006. loved every second of it. i havent played on the east coast but can say the set up, the lads and the standard of cricket in Perth was very good. Perths also a great place, nice and relaxed and some great beaches. i went on the CA website and emailed my cricketing CV to a list of clubs over there and took it from there. depending on your ability depends what you get offered. some will just provide somewhere to stay at cost and maybe a job, others may pay your airfare if your playing to a very high standard in england. i was fortunate to car share with another english guy and have cheap but decent place to stay. worked part time out there too to cover my beer money.

Did six months in Brisbane through a company called sport lived. Payed them for my accommodation before I went then they sorted me coaching on good money and a club to play for. Standard was top notch and I love Brisbane awesome place (im a touch biased because my family are from there) but going through a company at least give a bit of security that you will end up somewhere where the club will look pit for you. All depends how good you are in reality tho

for me it was a case of getting to know the club as much as i could before i went. id arranged to play for them a good 8-10 months before i went. few phone conversations from them to check i wasnt an idiot. I think it works both ways. Obviously security of a company helps but if your commited to going then putting in a little effort to get to know the guys helps. i was always relaying scores, emailing them etc to see how things were. helps alot.
it also shows your commited to the club before you go. gives them security that your not going to do something stupid

I came from Perth to UK in 2004....I used an agent the previous season to play in Holland but in 04 I used the play-cricket.com exchange...advertised an had 30 offer within a week...try that website or the WACA website...be aware though in Perth they have tons of leagues of varying standards, WACA being premier(grades 1-4)...
Johners77 - who did you play for whole there? I'm a black duck!! (Midland Guildford CC)

My Brother in Law is going out in September for the season.
Playing for Swan Ath, in Perth WA. I spent a few weeks there 2 Christmas' ago and it seemed to be a great club.
They won the 2nd grade League as such but didn't win the grand final.
I think he will have to start in the 2's as his batting for time is weak. Likes to go at a run a ball no matter if it's a good ball or not!

i played for bentley in the WASTCA. think we played midland in a rep game on a sunday for either carlton colts or the WASTCA rep side. Perths great. would love to do it again and challenge myself in the WACA league
Swan ath also sounds familiar.

I played against Swan Athletic as a teen coming through the leagues for Swan View CC and Greenmount CC before moving into the Midland Guildford CC set up.....good league, so he should enjoy it!!
Johners77 def head back and test yourself in the WACA comp...plenty of sides available and a brilliant standard of cricket...85 overs a day in 40 deg heat will be a experience you'll never forget ;)

Yeah I'd love to. I must admit I did like the 80 overs we played in the wastca. If I didn't have a mortgage I'd be over this year.
