Title: Indicative pricing Poll
Post by: Number4 on May 16, 2012, 12:23:10 PM
Ok only way to solve this question is to put it to a vote to the people that matter.... The members... Buyers and sellers

Vote away

Thanks for being proactive with this Number4 - I think it is important members feel that they can influence how the forum is run.

my one question is that a "ball park figure" and an "indicative price" are pretty much the same thing.

If there is an strong preference for change, then there will be no obstacles for changing the rules, if the vote ends relatively evenly then we will leave it as it is for now.

Yes true I didn't word it well at all but we get the idea.

I just thought a vote would be better than little bickering back and forth with pros and cons... It's either added or it isn't simple as that.

I think this is hard to keep a hold of, as you may get a bat off a certain someone that adds value to the bat? there are so many instances, I believe this is hard to keep a tab of.

I believe any bat is worth what the customer will pay for it. Therefore, if a bat is in demand at the current time, then it'll be worth more and therefore it could be a good time to sell. Especially when selling 2nd hand, I believe this has a very large influence on people selling etc on the forum and then if something is 'overpriced' then the person may get ridiculed for it.

It's a toughy.

For the life of me I cannot understand what this has to do with whether the forum should stipulate an asking price being mandatory in Sale threads!! If you cannot justify the price of something then your probably asking too much for it  ;)

I may have got the wrong end of the stick.

I thought a pricing poll, per bat...

obviously not haha.

I see a price as an opening for a bit of bartering.

Aaah! that explains it! Yeah, that would be fairly complicated!  :D

I think prices should also clearly show whether it includes postage or not

I understand this is slightly more specialist than eBay.

But you have to put a guide price up on eBay, even if you put a 'best offer'...?

Let's stick to eBay selling rules roughly.

Ball park figures should be shown for sure. If the intention of this forum is to expand, which presumably it is,rules need to apply to everyone not just certain individuals.

All the rules always apply to everyone

I believe all bats, pads etc, put up for sale in the "For Sale/Swap" should have a price a part if our rules. Simple as.....

we all know most times these will just be a starting prices, as sellers always ask a slightly higher price than they will except, but it is a starting point.

I for one will never purchase anything unless it has a starting price.

I do understand the hesitation for not adding a starting price, I for one would have no idea what to ask for a bat.

Despite feelings from certain people I think it's fair to say the members have spoken...

It's a landslide!!!

We haven't yet had 5% of the members vote.... Not quite a landslide ;)

Ok a small pebble rolled off the peak of the mountain  8)

Although I'd still say landslide seeing as its the highest number of people who have voted on a poll on the forum  ;)

It's a high proportion of those who have voted Tim, which must be representative?

Also, what percentage of members post and contribute - I'll bet a hug percentage have 10 posts or under?

Looking at the stats there are usually about 240-250 members on the forum.

on that basis we are ideally looking for about 120+ members to have voted. At the moment we have 88.

on that basis - if you read this - PLEASE VOTE IN THE POLL!!!

thanks

I think it's pretty conclusive.

Just state a selling price.

Its not difficult to see that the people who have voted are the ones who are actually interested to voice their opinion. Many simply read when they are online which might not be too often.
Go with the people who have voted  as these are the people that are interested to actually buy something.
I for one am not interested in anything that doesnt have a price guide. If you want a sale and dont wish to have timewasters haggling then stick a realistic price on and sell it quickly. Maybe some people just like the fun , banter and enless bumps on their for sale post so they dont state a price?

I am using a stat based on usage in the last 5 months, not last 5 years, hence the difference. But I get the message.

Most suppliers on here provide a figure whether including or discluding postage as there are members like myself in foreign parts..
My experience with forum members is that they provide a 'ball park' figure they are hoping to get and if it doesn't sell then the negotiations start which they either accept or not....
Seems to have worked well in the past so not quite sure what has changed except for that custom made 'best bat ever affair' which was amusing for a while...
