Title: my knee
Post by: the little ripper on May 18, 2012, 07:04:42 PM
playing tonight on a firm wicket three overs left went for a slog my body twisted one way and my knee the other  I think I have "popped my knee" I was hobbling off and looking at the depleted remainder of the batting order I turned around to try hit boundary's foolishly I did it again and i swelled up hugely. This has happened twice in two years now I'm wondering whether its the spikes/pads I'm wearing the spikes are asics 335 2010 version and the pads are gm 505 (I don't face decent bowling ;) ) so if anyone could tell me why its happening it would be greatly appreciated.

Doubt its the equipment mate, last few overs, putting everything into a slog, technique might have gone out the window!

I'm some what of an expert on this and have popped my knee or dislocated my knee 4 times out of the last 6 seasons and its always when batting and playing aggressively ( no no other way ) always on dry hard tracks and i obviously have a weakness in my left knee im left handed batter however my spikes just didn't give so ive now ensured the spikes in my batting shoes are so small jut so they give a little.

I also now wear a knee brace which was the best £90 ive ever spent so id recommend investing in one unless you want to miss 12 weeks of every season like i have in recent years.

Sounds to me like you've either damaged your medial collateral ligaments (MCL) or your anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), I'd try and get to see a physio or someone ASAP!

I agree with Watsontotty,

Its not your pads... I doubt its an ACL, most like Patellar issues.

Take a look at this:

good luck.

Absolutely the best advice. Go and see a your GP asap and he'll do a few tests to see if there's any laxity in the knee joint. Chances are you'll be sent off for an MRI scan. No point in doing self diagnosis or guessing at what it might be...
