Title: Retro Styleee
Post by: Manormanic on May 24, 2012, 07:38:09 AM
Article in AOC this month about retro styled bats such as the revamped Scoop and the SS Turbo rerelease made me wonder - what other classics of the past would you like to see rereleased?

A couple I'd love to have another look at would be the Kookaburra Ridgeback - loved that when I was a lad - and the late 80s Slazengers....

Kook bubble 5* was my best bat when I was a wee lad...

Oooh yeah, a Dynadrive would be pretty cool - would also like a rehashed Ultimate a la Robin Smith but with modern beefy edges and all!

I think the V12 with current pressing and drying would be very interesting indeed.

Hi

I will be releasing a  bat modelled on the Purist in the next couple of weeks as part of the Helios Cricket bat range.
Made with Grade One and Reserve Grade willow. Photos and website to be launched soon

I think the Symonds Super Tusker profile would probably look quite contemporary now.

I have one of those, and I'll be taking a picture of it shortly.

GN Scoop is not much bigger than the original so not sure if we all think these modern bats are double the size for some reason?

Those Tuskers used to be quite popular in the midlands, though they were naturally hugely outnumbered by DF Magnums (I'm talking mid to late 80s).

You can buy those brand new. SS made a number in the last couple of years.

I've still got a Newbery Excalibur - no shoulders - 3 lb of hooliganism in its day.

Exactly- but sadly not wielded with such destructive brio as by Lance Cairns! I think Malcolm Marshall also had one around that time. Tempting to wonder what transfer price Lance Cairns in his pomp would have attracted in the IPL. - he could bowl a bit tidy too.

Certainly a devastating batsman with an odd bowling action

I loved the Kookaburra Bubble, too, but in my opinion the most retro looking bat is actually a modern bat - the really rather lovely Willostix Anaconda Classic LE: http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bats-c17/senior-cricket-bats-c18/willostix-anaconda-classic-limited-edition-cricket-bat-p294

got to say the two you brough to the Manor grabbed a lot of attention - lovely, lovely bats.  But not the same type of retro if you ask me - I mean, you didn't see, for example, Viv Richards batter the England seamers with one when you were nine...

Very nice bats they were. Had a lovely pro performance that I didn't knock in properly and bust the toe.
