Title: Ace cricket bats

walking past a charity shop this morning saw this bat in the window,thought id have a look ruler straight grains so i said how much for the bat as there was no price she said 50p cant be bad hey,just never heard of ACE just wondered if anyone knows a little about them

Alfred Christoper Evans, based in Elland, Leeds.

Ian Austin used to use their bats.

They packed in a fair while ago I believe

one of my club mates was using an ace until a week or so ago. Not a big bat but seemed to go alright.

yeah i used to remember these it was elland halifax dad used to take me every year for my custom made by alf evans these were a great bat shame it didnt keep going

used it in the net for a laugh and it went like a train,i was shocked to be honest,ive bought a gun of a bat for 50p lol

Doubt or as they're no longer in business. I have a feeling alf Evans might not be with us anymore :(

Alf is another from the County dynasty where he learned alongside Tony Cook and Chris Farrant. Then he joined St. Peters. Then joined ACE.

He retired about 7/8 years ago and ACE ceased to trade.

James Dollive, Alf's apprentice bat maker at ACE, now runs JEDi Bats.

I used to use this as a mate of my Dad's was good friends with Alf. Nice bat, went really well. And about 10 years ago  There weren't too many knocking about in the south!

I only got hold of mine as a lad from Macclesfield joined and it was one of his.  These were the only ones I saw...

It deserves a good refurb with new stickers just not sure who would put there sticker on m classic ace bat?

Glen Chapple used to use there bats before he made it they were sold about 10 years ago to a Asian group but they did not carry it on

Ace had a lightweight out most of the Yorkshire Juniors used ACE Alfred Charles Evens

I think he moved to SP when SP acquired County.

In the 70s. County was sold off in the early 80s when SP got into financial difficulties. The UK County business subsequently went bust, and Hunts County bats was started by some former County employees.

here she is the ACE PREMIER from around 20 years ago in good condition had a net goes well as expected

2lb 7oz

all the other bats are 2lb 8oz including grips and stickers

When I joined Aylesbury 4-5 players had ACE Ensigns

Think they advertised in fixture list and were in the south.
