Title: Saying Positive
Post by: Bruce on May 25, 2012, 07:56:06 PM
So, I netted lots during the winter to keep my eye in and develop more shots, strengthen my defence and improve shot selection.

I play better when I attack but know I can defend as we as any body in my team.
My Missis old man says to me, you've got to be positive.
Which in fairness is true.
I bat 3/4/5. That's a big difference in roles imo.
The openers like to give it a hit and they do it well. I never know whether to carry on where they left off or take a more defensive approach.
First game this year on a slow low Dorset wicket I nudged and nurdled 44 not out. I felt brilliant when I walked back in, though I didn't time many, the partnership we put on won us the game.

Tomorrow were playing at Dorchester. A good/ a lot better than most of the tracks we play on in a season, I can have some confidence in.
Do I:
A: play some shots or
B:  keep it tight?

Help is greatly appreciated.

David.

Maybe just play each ball on merit ie if its a bad ball play a shot, if its a good ball keep it tight. I know what you mean though its hard not to have a pre concieved way on how you think you are going to play.

look at the state of the game, you shouldn't pre meditate when you are playing, let alone the night before!

I'd go along with the thoughts of Buzz (I taught him all he knows) - don't overthink it. You need to play tomorrows wicket and bowlers on their merits, and play shots when you are well an truly in.

I might be opening tomorrow - no-one can pre-conceive how that's going to go!

Hummmm. Yes I am over thinking this.
Need to clear the mind and take the pressure off.
Open another bottle of Savannah!

Fit camp in the morning to worry about first!

Sanderstead - it may not be pretty, I am captaining a team of 14 year olds, arthritics and optimistic newcomers!

ahh, gotta love poor availability.

Keep it simple Bruce - that's what I say!

As an opening bowler that's the kind of talk from a batsman that I like to hear as by the tome you get to the crease you will have thought yourself out. Pay what you see, that's all you can do...
