Title: Ian Pont (Coach) / Atul Sharma (Player)
Post by: Marcussjd9 on April 28, 2009, 08:13:27 PM
Just wondering if anybody on here knows of him?

I'm a member on another forum and there was some discussion over an Indian player called Atul Sharma who is touted to be the fastest bowler ever, or something along those lines. Supposedly he can bowl > 100mph. He's currently a member of the Rajasthan Royals IPL squad but has not played yet due to injury. Don't think he has played a First Class game and he does not have a Cricinfo profile. Ian Pont is a respected coach and there is a video of him on this website

I just wasn't sure if any of our members may of heard anything on the matter?

The book is interesting, I find it difficult to apply some of it to my action but there are some great pieces of advice in there. Helps you to understand what your body does and can do potentially.

Atul Sharma looks quick, that warm up drill looked good as well, I hope he plays.

He certainly has a different action.
Apparently he has spent 3 years working on it!!

Unfortunately I've now changed to leg spin, I got a bit frustrated with my very medium paced bowling.

Ok I've spent about 2 hours reading about Atul Sharam hahahha anyway I dont see how this action is different from Jeff Thomson. Thommo used to criss-cross his legs a stride before his delivery. Same thing.

Personally looking forward to seeing him in match conditions lets hope its soon. Hate to face him!

Ity's just the whole thing of him as a player.
Apparently he an bowl at 100mph, he's been given an IPL contract with RR having played no competitive cricket for 7 years?
Basically he got it because Ian Pont said he was something new different and very very exciting. Thomson watched over him at a net session where he bowled at Warney and gave him the thumbs up.
RR then signed him.
Quite extraordinary.

Thommo has seen him? Really? Oh no Thommo will say "See its the best way to bowl..... I think I still bowled faster"

Hopefully he gets some control over his bowling. Lets hope we see much more of him, its good for cricket. I hope they do a good job of nuturing him...not letting it get to his head.....he does seem very dedicated though.
