Hi
At the start of the season I purchased a pair of Puma keeping gloves for our young keeper. However he does not like them and complained that they hurt his hands. So, as I know nothing about wicket keeping gloves, I would like your recommendations. My budget is £60

Wymer customs for £8 extra. Kook gloves are typically excellent also.

Take him to a shop and get him to try some on, if he thinks Puma gloves 'hurt his hands' then it is far more likely he's not catching the ball properly so buying him some new gloves unseen may not alleviate the problem. At least if he is with you when you get them he can't say they don't fit properly! ;)
For £60 you've got the choice of most gloves on the market....Chase gloves did well in one of the tests, Kook, Slaz, Puma......all are excellent.

maybe get him some of those crazy Aero Wicketkeeping inners .... i think the ball is probably bouncing on the bones of the palm just below the fingers (underside of the knuckles)
He needs to catch it in the soft part but a decent pair of inners or 2 pairs ... fingerless cotton and then padded chamois ones should help out or try out these aero ones.
if they dont workyou can always sell them to someone who has a motorbike as htey look like bikers gloves!

Personally I don't think theres anything better than Puma gloves, having tried most mainstream brands. I've never had the gloves "hurting" me, just the ball, so this is most likely a technical issue. However he may now be mentally against Puma gear, so next best for me would be Kooks, if he doesn't mind the short cuff

I've had no problem with the Puma gloves (Pulse 6000), well padded. I use them with a pair of Kook padded inners. Get's the job done every time. Most likely cause of sore hands is technique and lack of practice.

It maybe the inners more than the gloves.
Our keeping gloves are £40 and with a pair of aero inners K3 or K1 they should do the trick and just under £60.00
The K1 inners have silocon pads and just take the sting out of a wrongly caught ball.
Most keeping gloves from £40 upwards should be fine.

I found Aero inners ridiculously clunky and not sure I could flick the glove off and on easy enough

I'm no keeper, and rarely do it but I've had the pleasure of using top quality gear like GN Legends, Puma 5000 and Kookaburra Yellow Brad Haddin's. Out of all of these I prefer this year's GN Legend gloves, just felt the nicest whilst I was using them.

If you want something a bit different then out of the forum brands I have used both Ayrtek and Blenheim have been very good and great value for money. The Blenheims are somewhat similar to the GN Legends but significantly cheaper.
SS are decent too, just be aware that the sizing is on the small side and the looks are not to everyone's taste.
To be honest though I have always been a fan of Pumas and have found their level of protection to be right up with the best so can only echo what others have said about technique/training and inners

We had a part-time keeper at our club who had about £30 to spend on a new pair of keeping gloves - tried on everything we had and he ended up going for these - he's now a full time keeper and hasn't looked back since...

When he says the gloves are hurting his hands there will be two reasons for this...
1. He's not catching the ball in the right areas of the gloves due to a poor technique
2. The gloves are a bad fit for him.
Unlike batting gloves and even shoes, the size of wicket keeping gloves are rigid. I say this because the position of a keepers fingers are dictated by the size of rubber finger cups used the wider the cup the wider the glove. This will cause a bad fitting glove causing pain as it will contort the keepers fingers into an unnatural position.
I coach our junior keepers and have experienced this a number of times, when the kids get the right equipment it will make the world of difference to them....you wouldn't send a kid out to bat with a pod which is 4 sizes too big and expect them to do a good job would you??

My recommendation would be
SS Gladiator
SS Ultimate(latest model)- we have them but haven't had a time to put them on our web site
