Why would you want to pay anything close to that for a mallet Joe?

I wouldn't, but apparently a lot of people want Lignum Vitae mallets like batmakers have or something so I found these and was wondering if they would work :)

This may be of use: http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=4696.0
Also found this on the net http://www.beckenhamcricketspec.com/cricket/bat-repairs-grips-care-products/bat-mallets/prod_498.html
It claims to be made of Lignum Vitae

£84 for a mallet?? :o

Crazy prices, just use a normal mallet! Never had a problem preparing bats with the GN deluxe mallet... (Got of Bulldog for a tenner) If you knock in bats as a retailer, then maybe start off with a normal mallet, then proceed to finish off the bat with an LV one, but pointless spending that much on a mallet...
-
From my research, that's relatively cheap for a lignum mallet. Agree with chad that unless you are knocking in loads of bats (which I why I am sorely tempted by one) then I don't think you need one.
Just a note, the same seller is cheaper on eBay.

Cheap for a lignum mallet suited to knocking in a bat I mean, there are many out there for less but I am not sure they are quite right.

That's right, the wood in itself is quite expensive too.
