Title: Kookaburra rogue players grains....,
Post by: imogzyboy on July 11, 2012, 11:49:29 AM
Just been to see a bat someone was selling he's sponsored by kook and was selling me a players model he had used a couple of times was asking 170 but somethings putting meoff its the grains there's about 12 but they get really close in the middle and they aren't very even and on the back of the bat there are some knot marks, could this still be a players model it does say so on the handle :/ I am asking before I make a mistake of buying it haha

The retail 'Players' model of Kook bats will be based on performance AND cosmtics. Therefore the shop or retail models will need to look good and perform.
But I suspect that if this guy is sponsored, it is less important whether the bat has 12 equally spaced and perfect grains as the bat will be based mainly on pure performance, and possibly balance, pickup, feel!! In my opinion, I would always pick performance over cosmetics any day of the week!! It sounds as though it isn't a bad looking bat, just not quite perfect to look at!
Tap it up and see how it feels!  8) If you know this guy is definitely a sponsored player and you trust him, then he should have a very decent bat there.

If you like the bat then buy it. If you have any reservations at all then don't. By the sounds of it you have reservations so save yourself some grief and wait until you're ready to part with that kind of money for a bat....there's plenty of them about! The second you start questioning it is the second you need to walk away...

While we're all sitting here looking in, the tone of your initial comment and the follow up responses suggest that you are mostly concerned that you don't think it looks like a £160 bat. I can't tell whether you think it pings like one!

Offer him £100 - if the bat really is surplus to his requirements it's still a decent wedge of cash. The worst he can say is no - though he might use fruitier language to mean the same thing. For the money he is asking you could probably get a very decent performing bat made for you by some of the forum sponsors on here.

My point would be that it doesn't matter if it doesn't look perfect! Base it on performance and how it feels to you!
You are in a lucky position.......you can pick it up, tap it up, see if it feels perfect for you.
I would go back and take batting gloves with you and pick it up again to see if it still feels great!
As long as it performs and feels right to you, then the cosmetics should be way down the list of importance IMO!
It is a lot of money but if it is a genuine sponsored players bat then it could well be worth a punt - offer him £140 and settle on £150 if it really is a mega-responsive stick  8)

ive found the shop bought players bats from Kook are nothing that special at all and ive had a couple which i sold on fairly quickly 9ish grains fairly clean and straight but nothing special in regards to performance. I was told they press them slightly harder as they don't want this high end bats coming back broken ? from a good source but not sure how true this is.
