I've been down the local nets the past couple of days for an hour or so, after feeling very rough and out of nick after my past couple of innings. I have a lack of shape when playing through the offside, foots not going to the pitch of the ball, and I seem to bringing my bottom hand when playing shots through the offside, aswell as struggling with balance after playing shots.
I know that with my balance issue its because I get to far over with my head, and not keeping it in line with the ball. I really am struggling to just get bat on ball.
With a relatively big game tomorrow, and the prospect of me likely the bat at the moment. Obviously depending on the state of our innings will determine how I play. How can I go about all my technical deficiencies? Really starting to bug me now, so just looking for some help and guidance please.

a video would help mate, wit regards to your bottom hand, try to use 2 fingers to grip the bat, then put your pinky and 3rd finger on top of the handle, no chance of pushing through then, and raise your back lift slightly while locking your top wrist so the bats arc is always down untill out in front of you. Your Balance is more of a difficult fix, I have the same issue, my coach told me to stand up slightly taller and lean my head backwards slightly to almost counter act the over balancing and always keep your eyes level to stop you falling over. Like I said, a video would be your best bet, but Ibhope I gave you some good tips, hope tomorrow goes well for you

I didn't have any video proof or anything mate, if it carries on then I will get a video up. Some very helpful tips too, I'll take them into consideration when knocking up tomorrow mate! :) I also forgot to add that my backlift, normally very still and straight back is very juttery and flappy. Something I need to stop, would this be causing me to get to the ball late?

So far you've given a list of stuff you seem to know you're doing wrong.. Why not try doing all those things right instead???
-
Its harder than going from doing them wrong to doing them right. It may just be a lack of confidence and form.
-
Yeah it could do, If I am honest mate, if you tuck your hands in to your hips, then as the bowler bounds lift your bat up, thats the easiest way to stop jittering, by floppy do you mean like Johnathon Trott in his trigger? like where he moves his bat up and down?
-
Yes that is exactly what I mean! :(

like I said, the more you relax and stop thinking, stop doing this, dont do that, then the better you will feel and the easier it will become, it sounds to me that one ore two bad habbits have sneaked in and now your confidence is down, the less you think about batting the better, if you just play each ball on its merit and dont try to do too much, then it should be okay. I think the main points to focus on, are cocking your top wrist, lighten the grip on the bottom hand, and stay as still at the crease as possible. Another problem could be that your back hip is pushing through bringing your back shoulder through, this in turn would push your bottom hand through, but again without video its impossible to say weather or not thats the problem. If you think that is the problem then the easy fix for this is that you need to keep your back foot parallel to the stumps and crease, and dont turn your foot and rock onto the front of your toes. ALOT to think about I know, but like I said, it all sounds like small issues that have a realatively easy fix that amount to a bigger issue.

couple of tips that I've used when coaching that came from much better coaches, Doug Padgett and Bob Woolmer
use the brim of your helmet or cap to keep your eyes level
for front foot shots - practice balancing on your front foot so you can just lift your backfoot without overbalancing. this is the optimum position (head, knee, toe) to be in for drives. do it for 10 mins going stance to front foot before you go in
relax, remember to breathe when the bowler is coming in - exhale on his delivery stride
good luck

I was batting terribly at the beginning of the season, over thinking everything and trying to correct things I didn't need to correct. Im a completely different bat to you, (you play through the offside for a start) but just believe in yourself and what you've done correctly before and play your natural game mate!
-
You're a coach mate lol, you should know! ;)
-
I know! But not even sure if I'm coaching myself correctly! Or attempting batting in the way I should. Thanks for all your help guys, luckily wasn't needed to bat this week!

I am going through a similar phase like you. Watch the ball forget everything else. Look around in your own team for motivation. There will always be someone with appaling technique but still manage to get the runs. Try and get as much as time in the middle, things will click into place. Only a few games left, make the most out of it runwise.

I know how you feel - I'm going through the same problem, no foot movement, bottom hand taking over. Got bowled again yesterday, I hate getting bowled but 60%-70% of my dismissals this year have been bowled hitting across the line. I do tend to score the majority of my runs on the leg side and am generally a back foot player but keep trying to hit full straight deliveries through mid wicket and can't seem to stop myself.
I've just seen a couple of photos of my batting on Saturday (photographer must have been there at the right moment as I only made 8) and my feet are in a horrible position in each of the photos, in one there is a huge gap between bat and pad and I've bascially just turned my feet and not really moved anywhere.
Stupid game.

Seeing is believing.
A video will help you no end!
I've started to bring my bat from out wide again >:(
I need to fim again as I haven't filmed one since pre season!
