can't blame England as these guys (Rankin, Morgan) are looking at the situation and making a decision on how to make the best living possible. Until the ICC grant Ireland test status then it's always going to be a problem.

Basically this is code for 'Rankin signs new contract for Warwickshire'.

I suspect that his decision is more to do with it being a prerequisite for him to get a decent contract renewal from Warwickshire to be honest - they were well known to be teed off with him for his frequent injuries on international duty.

And Ashley Piles is both his Director of Cricket and a well known favourer of his own players in international selection meetings so you never know...

He's excellent at picking players froom other counties for Lions duty just before they play the Brummie Bears too... ;)

Would Counties get looked after better in regards to getting compensation for injured players whilst on duty for a full test playing nation as opposed to an associate playing nation? Makes alot of sense if they do.

The reason behind this i think is that every time Rankin has played for Ireland recently he has come back injured and warrickshire are unhappy about this and they wanted him to retire from internationals.

I do not think he is good enough to play for England

This is all about a new contract and nothing to do with England. Can't wait to read the Irish cricket forums! They were already fuming about the rumour that Warwickshire had asked him to retire now he has confirmed his retirement from Ireland expect much fury.

He has signed a new 3 year contract at the Bears. Giles said they would not offer one unless he retired from Ireland. Disappointed he could not just admit the truth rather than coming out with the playing for England story.

love to know what the improved Ireland contract was? Counties don't offer huge contracts as it is.

His retirement is looking abit foolish now. He is nowhere near being on the english test team

now now, if they assassinate the first XI and Lions squads, ban all Yarpies and only pick players who've represented both Derbyshire and Warwickshire he might get close...
