Just read on Cricket Insight that the V12 is coming back!!!! oooh, I've just wet meself!
How am I going to afford a V12 and a Dynadrive?
-
V12 ?
-
V12 ?
YES V12!!!!!! :D :D However I am also too young to know anything about the V12. But judging by all the hype I've heard about the 'magical V12' it was a good'un.
-
Manufactures seem to be bringing Out a lot of classics that people used to love,,, can only be a positive thing !
-
Or a cynical attempt to rekindle interest in tired brands?
-
Or a cynical attempt to rekindle interest in tired brands?
Think this is quite possibly the case with Slazenger, too many negative connotations with Sports Direct I think, they need a way to start selling high end bats.

Couldn't agree more, Jack...
-
Plus they are plugging in to a market of fat, balding, ageing, club cricketers in their 40's with more money than talent, who will buy these bats in the hope that they will make them bat as well as they did in 1984.
I'm certainly one of them..................apart from the money that is!
-
Maybe so with slazenger,,,,, but with gray nicolls bringing back the dynadrive and scoop they're doing good in my opinion as that's what many people want
-
Yeah it's a whole different story for Gray Nics as they're still having their new, brightly coloured, snazzy, modern bats. They will cater for the whole market next year, unlike Slazeger it seems.
-
Yeh but some how I think kookaburra could jump on the band wagon and bring out the bubble or ice back
-
Slazenger need to do a puma.
-
It would be great if there was a millichamp and hall puma
-
Yeh but some how I think kookaburra could jump on the band wagon and bring out the bubble or ice back
Go back further SuperLegend (memories of Dean Jones + Alan Lamb)
-
Never heard of that bat
-
My first senior bat remember it well.
-
Slazenger full launch day is tomorrow - which means I should get some sleep. I'm up early.
-
Had 4 V12s as a kid. Loved them. Hope they do it justice.
-
The V12 was around a couple seasons ago wasn't it?
-
Yeh but some how I think kookaburra could jump on the band wagon and bring out the bubble or ice back
The ice only finished 2 years ago
-
if Kookaburra were to do anything they should do the Alec Stewart era Bubble and the late 80s Ridgeback - in fact, that Ridgeback is just the kind of shape that would go really welll with modern bat making techniques, you could make something huge for very little weight!
-
The one thing I do remember about the v12 was that it had a pretty small middle. Be interesting to see what they do to modernise it...
-
also be interesting to see if they go super-retro with the graphics
-
The ice only finished 2 years ago
Yeh but a lot of people loved the ice and the ice 850 softs
-

I have no idea what you are on about :D
-
I thought the v12 bats were rubbish.
even when Viv used one.
-

I think Viv made them look good
-
The V12 i had was a monster bat.
The Symonds Tusker needs to. . . .make a comeback.
-
I had an awesome V12 too
-
Are these Super Tuskers legit???
http://www.cougarcricket.net/Symonds_Bats/Symonds_Bat_RhinoCharge.html
My old club when I was 14 used to have one and I bought it off them for $50...it had a terrible pickup probably due to being loaded with oil haha loved it though....don't know what ever happened to it though sadly!
-
anyone has a decent pic of V12 or has a v12 and would not mind putting pics up for those of us who have not seen it :( , i noticed in the pic with kallis & styen that these look white almost painted/covered was that the case?

V12 is a standard profile bat, a nice shape - made in England. Limited to 200 pieces
In the other ranges there's some real innovation. Scoops, edge inserts and different handles.

Standard profile as in not the same shape it used to be? thats disappointing.
Gt any more detail on the rest of the range?

Looks concaved , not traditional

V12 was my favorite bat, ranks right up there with the old DF Colt.

-
Such a shame that they've made zero attempt to do a modern twist on the old V12. I don't get it? Surely they could still have done the same retro graphics but with a more suitable model name... This isn't a V12, it's just a bat with a V12 sticker :(
-
The bat pictured above isn't the V12 is it though?
-
V12 here http://www.cricketinsight.co.uk/2012/08/13/2357/.
The bat pictured above is just the bat with the edge inserts that Tom talked about before.
-
Pictures are up on the Cricket Insight website, not sure about the Hex handle and edge inserts but the double spine looks intriguing
-
The V1200 looks like a mad T20 bat, it will be interesting to see the pricing.
-
12thman posted this pic in previous thread
the V12 was all about that swell on the back - it was the willow equivalent of an Angelina Jolie
(http://i53.tinypic.com/wqy25z.jpg)
-
Is it just me ? I feel the v12 has a high sweet spot.
-

Prices have come down this year from Slazenger, available in all grades.
-
those softs should be good value in the sports direct sale next summer!
-
Good innovation but would like to see if it makes any difference. Looks like they have patents on the TAS Inserts technology.
-

Yes, they didn't tear up any trees the classic pads and gloves.
The quality of the leather and gloves was amazing on them, the best I've ever seen. But styling is a little too 10 years ago on them.
-
Is it just me ? I feel the v12 has a high sweet spot.
The raised middle started around 5" from the toe and finished around 8.5" from the toe
-

love the innovation in the new V1200 bat, will be interesting to hear the players feedback. especially interested to find out how the hollowed out handle holds up

-
I'm slightly disappointed with the V12, it was my first senior bat years back and when I saw they were bringing it out again I got quite excited. Looking at it though I'm just not too sure now.
-
The edge inserts have been done by a Tasmanian guy for years. There is a YouTube video on it somewhere
-
Having had a chance to look at all of these, I think the Hex handle is interesting, and will be interesting to see what difference it really makes. I know of a number of makers who have been playing with handles and this is something a bit different again.
I remember the TAS inserts as there was a lot of discussion on here about them some time ago. While I know it is claimed that this makes the bat a grade B, I'm not so sure that the MCC will retain that, especially as the purpose is to improve the performance of the bat, which we all know they don't like... It's an interesting idea all the same and I'd like to try it out.
The "Double Spine" looks like a way to create a wider spine without increasing the weight. Again, remains to be seen whether it makes that much difference, but I'd like to have a go.
The V12 is, for me, the biggest disappointment, taking the V12 of a couple of years ago and sticking retro stickers on it rather than following what GN did and creating an update on a classic shape. That sucks in my opinion.
I'm also a bit disappointed with the naming of the new bat. I have an original V1200 at home. It was a V12 with an extended hump to give ti more middle. Come on Slazenger. If you are going to release bats using old names, at least pay homage...

What I love abotu that video is that the bat you see George Bailey using, which was a tester, looks like it is a Dynadrive!

I think they're just his old V500 bats stickered up as they appear to still have the cut outs near the toe.
-
I think they're just his old V500 bats stickered up as they appear to still have the cut outs near the toe.
Have you seen the size of the cut outs on the v500? I doubt very much you could keep a decent bat with that much sanding :)
-
I think they're just his old V500 bats stickered up as they appear to still have the cut outs near the toe.
your right I can also see were the old v500 stickers were on the back of the bats too as they haven't faded.
-
May be where the stickers were; no cut outs in Prior's bats...
-
Maybe Prior's aren't Slazengers then?
-
They should be.
-
Then how would they sand the grooves out of the back?
-
He didn't get V500 stock shape?
-
Aha I see. Hadn't thought of that reason lol. I doubt they are slaz's anyway mind.
-
Good innovation but would like to see if it makes any difference. Looks like they have patents on the TAS Inserts technology.
I am the co-owner of TAS Bats. We had a university study completed last year which compared the ball rebound velocity from 2 identical Slazenger bats - 1 with TAS inserts and 1 without. Rebound velocities were up to 27% higher on the bat with TAS inserts. We also confirmed our claims that the sweet spot has been extended not just up and down the blade, but also outwards from the centre. Further, we also confirmed that the rotational forces in the handle from shots hit off centre have been reduced by up to 10%. Several years of actual on field testing has also shown that TAS inserts make the bat more robust with no major edge damage occuring on the bat edges. Follow our facebook page at facebook.com/tasbats01 as we will be posting some of these results over coming weeks.
-
It's a county he is using
You are correct - it is a county bat.

I can confirm that the MCC Laws Committee have viewed our product and have given it a Grade B classification. In fact our technology was one of the contributing factors to the changing of Law 6. Look forward to your feedback when you have had a chance to use the V100 TAS. A university study carried out last year has confirmed all of our claims of performance improvement.
-
Good luck Mr Tas bats. great to see new innovations coming on to the market. so what do you do now that slazenger have it, are you still allowed to fit the inserts into other bats or work with other bat companies?
-

Slazenger have the global rights to fit TAS Inserts into new cricket bats. We will however continue to fit TAS Inserts into bats post production. This ensures that TAS technology will be available to all cricketers in one form or another.
-
are these bats legal for league cricket then?
I may be wrong, but grade b bats aren't for use in league cricket.
-
Type A bats are the only bats for use in 1st class.
The ECB don't seem to have passed on any regulations for Premier League or League cricket bats, and unless your league has any specific requirements then Type B and C bats should be okay.
-
Wonder how they would go in a laminated bat
-
is there a big difference between the tas insert and laver's lamitoe?
-
Both Lamitoe and TAS are Type B under the laws.
-
Nothing to see here.
-
Don't think we can talk about who makes who's bats.
-
Ok, the V12's seem to be pictured online in a workshop that has DF stuff left in the background.

that is classic!!!!! what plonkers!!!!!!!!!!

hah or maybe sneaky advertising for DF
-
That looks a beast! Love the old V12's, hit my first ever 4 with one back in the day...
-
Jason reviewed it and I'm in love with this stick!

Seems to me that blade length is shorter than standard. Can anyone confirm?
-
Standard length I believe...

A mate here got this bat and showed it to me. To be fair, I was least impressed with this stick. Off-set spine, tad bottom heavy, cork/rubber insert handle, sub-standard craftsmanship, one side had more concaving than other and so on.
I would never pay 400 quids for this bat, I'm glad I got to see my mates before I proceeded and ordered one.
Having said that I must say the laser engraving and the decals were impressive, I loved the look of them!

Hehe, the way how bat was I would say a random Joe off streets of Worcester ;) :-[
-
Picked out 2 of these today for our shop stock.
Must say i disagree with the above comments regarding finishing. Ours are beautifully finished, lovely satin finished willow, blemish free face, lovley stickers. The only sketchy area is the tape on the grip which is a little ropey, but i'll replace this if a customers questions it.
I love the grip itself. Plain black version of their innovative octoplus grip, which is my favourite and is on all of my bats. Black colouring hides all the new age tech behind a traditional image.
We have number 72 and 159. :D
-
I know not many people on this forum agree with me about this bat, but for those of you who are interested, here's the video review we shot of the ones we have in stock at the moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUNGYot28Fo&feature=plcp

Agree with pretty much everything you said Paul. Not sure i can justify yet another premium bat for myself, but if the V6's are anything like the V12 in shape then i may get one of them plus the pro tour soft gear for some classy looking (and slightly hungover) sunday runs this summer!

It was very interesting to see the new V12 5 Star at Slazenger today. Very rare, these - I believe only 4 shops in the country will be stocking them, including IJC and Uzi! Quite nice too... Managed to pick up a couple of beauties in 2.9 and 2.10. More details to follow!
-
I saw 4 or 5 of the V12's at Uzi Sports at the weekend.
Stunning bats with lush profile, although they should be at that price!

The V12 5 Stars look just as good really, and yet they're quite a lot less expensive...
-
Do they have the laser etching as well? How much is a lot less expensive? As always, pictures would be most welcome :D

Yes! They are basically grade 2 V12s, with a small sticker added below the big red V. Otherwise very similar, but over £100 cheaper... Ah, the all important pictures... :) :-[
Sedwyn, they'll have to wait until we get them next week.
-
Look forward to those pictures! Sure you picked beauties Paul.
-
Hi Paul, when will these be in your shop mate as I will try and tie in my visit to collect my bag when these are in. Ta

Expecting them in by Tuesday, so come and visit on Wednesday or Friday if you can, Chris.

You'll love my H4L Hattori then mate...
-
It was good to catch up with Paul and we were both busy going through hand picking our bats, I just went through most of their stock. Got real beauties for you guys, wait for the photos. I wasn't planning to buy as many as many as i have done now. Can't say no to top end bats.
As Paul said we have picked some beautiful 5 star V12s. will post photos as soon as we receive them.
All in all good day and very tiring.
Regards
Asad

Good to see you again yesterday, Asad, and in case anyone is wondering, I can testify to the fact that Asad literally does go through every single box of bats before finding his gems! He also kindly picked out a couple for me that I may not have found otherwise! :)
If you ever see an equivalent bat priced lower elsewhere just know that the extra few £s / pennies pays for the time and travel - as well as the blood, sweat and tears that goes into Asad finding these stunning bats! It was also interesting to note that only three other retailers bothered to do the same thing with their Slazenger bats...
-
Paul is a good friend of mine and it was good to see him and discuss cricket bats and bats and bats...

Hi Paul. What's the RRP on these, just so we can get some idea of pricing? Thx.
-
Hi Paul. What's the RRP on these, just so we can get some idea of pricing? Thx.
The RRP is about £260, Vincent. We haven't set our prices yet, but they likely won't be discounted much from that - not as much as most of our bats anyway...
-
From what I heard, there will only be 200 of these V12 made. Can anyone confirm?

200 of the LE and 200 of the 5 star, although for some reason unbeknownst to me, fewer of the latter have ended up in this country. Both have laser engraving and both made in england...
-
Paul is a good friend of mine and it was good to see him and discuss cricket bats and bats and bats...
Paul/Asad, do you ever fight over who gets a bat or do you have a system to make sure it's all fair?! Finders keepers maybe??

Haha first come, first served really! I wish he wasn't so quick off the mark though. That's the main problem with my avoiding the London rush hour! He left me some juicy leftovers though, which I certainly didn't consider "sloppy seconds"!

I know it a old topic but just looked at this bat off a mate who plays minor counties it is 2-12.3 so a tad heavy for me is bat 33 out off 200

Love the simple design of the stickers, can't beat it
-
Sports Direct/ Lillywhites have these on sale for £150!
-
Anyone know what the difference is between the V12 LE and the 5 star - grading?
-
The V12 5 star is Grade 2 and the V12 LE is top grade.
-
Jeez, I love those Slazenger bats. Just bought a classic, 25yr old V100 five star to add to the collection.

The V12s in Sports Direct this year are not made in England.

Yes. They had 'Designed in England' where 'Made in England' was last year. They were quite obviously Indian bats, in any case.
-
Subtle change in wording makes all the difference.
I have noticed some brands stating - English willow nurtured in India - which I guess is not much better than Kashmir Willow?

we have recently hand picked our slazenger bats and i am 100% sure that all their retro bats are made in UK. I am not sure about what they have in Sports Direct. Here are photos of 2 of the bats from our stock just to prove that sticker says Made in UK
