Title: Look what came in the post today
Post by: 97notout on August 13, 2012, 10:47:18 AM
These babies should have come in a brown paper bag as they are definately wicket keeper porn.

I finally sucumbed and went custom, contacted Mr Wymer and hey ho, got these. Okay the seasons nearly over but I had a little bit of spare cash and thought if I don't do it now.

Went for traditional sponge bar and cane and unlike Gray Nicolls cane, Mr Wymers is proper cane. The finish is superb.

Those of you who have his gloves know that anyway and those of you who don't, make that call, you know it makes sense.

What doesn't make sense is I now have other gloves to get rid of, or should I keep them.............mmm

They look amazing mate!

Question for a nuffy.....with custom made keeping gloves, do you still need to wear inners or are they lined with padding? Can't really tell in the photo.

You draw around you hands and he makes them perfect for your hands and allows enough room for inners is my understanding  8)

the Hosk is about right, Mr Wymer also asks whether you want oversize gloves and what sort of inners you wear. I just wear a pair of slazenger pro chamios inners with an elasticated wrist, which are pretty thin.
I've never had any custom made before but it seems that if you wear a well padded pair of inners like Sunridges then custom gloves might not be appropriate or suitable. I think if you like to feel the ball then customs is the way to go.

Well that's my limited understanding of custom made gloves, but always wear inners

I think theyre worth every penny as you can pay £70 for a pair of decent gloves that can be a bit big or a bit small

I didnt think they would be that cheap. They are great value as most off the shelve gloves are nearly that much

Reds, is that due to them being stiff or the weather during our marvellous summer?!

Got to say that I was wary that the gloves would be a bit stiff but I was pleasantly surprised. They are not the stiffest gloves I've owned.
A bit of work with some saddle soap and a bat mallet and they should be okay. ;)

Hopefully before 2014.

I've worn Kooks Silver classic 2012 model up until last week which are super supple but don't offer much protection. The Wymers apart from the leather on the backs feel better.
They are not as supple (yet) as the Alec Stewart Slazengers that I replaced the kooks with, but feel just as good on.

I also have some Nicolls 'Legend' which I bought before the Slazengers and the Wymers just feel a better fit, its as though they were made for me, sorry couldn't resist that.

Time will tell I suppose

I've got the gray nicolls evo gloves and was disappointed that they were cotton palms when they're top end gloves but I feel they offer good padding into the palm

Gloves look awesome. Had a couple of quick questions about the Wymer gloves:
(1) roughly how much does a pair cost?
(2) do you have to personally go to him to get measured up or does the sending off of a hand template suffice?
(3) do they need much breaking in or are they quite soft and supple to start with?
(4) have just bought a pair of GN Legend WK gloves but thinking of going custom instead of opening those!

Thanks
