Title: Which bat to keep?
Post by: jimba101 on August 16, 2012, 01:14:03 PM
Thought i'd share some pics of a couple of bats that i have recently bought. I'm looking for a new bat and after my M&H was too heavy i decided i'd try and get something in an end of season sale. After someone on here posted links to cheaps Redbacks on PDC i thought i'd chance my arm again despite not expecting to receive anything. Anyway, while i was waiting for it, a very nice H4L appeared in the for sale section which took my fancy so snapped it up and decided to cancel the Redback, however to my surprise it had already been dispatched so i now have 2 new bats  :D

The Redback is an Allegiance LE, weighs just over 2.10 (i ordered light) has 10 lovely straight grains and a touch of heartwood. I must say this bat is amazing, superb quality and a massive bargain at £167.

The H4L is a Hattori with 1/2 inch longer blade and slightly shorter handle. It weighs just over 2.9 and has huge edges as most H4L's do.

Now i have the dilema in choosing between them and getting rid of the other, i knew i should have just sent the Redback back without opening it lol

Enjoy the pics:

The Redback is a stunner. Is that the typical Allegiance profile or you had it modified?

Redback is gorgeous, and so is the hattori, you have a very tough decision mate :)

Both are beatiful. I would recommend to get a few crictec sheets and use a net bat with it on. If you find you hit lower on the bat, I would use the redback and if higher, the H4L. Perhaps just choose the bat which feels nicest to pick up and rebounds the best? Hope this helps! :) If it was me, I would keep both! :D

Just to add, if you are planning to sell one of the bats, then you will have a better chance to sell the Redback as it is a standard SH bat.

I was in the same boat as you - had a custom Salix made and since it took 7 weeks to arrive, I asked for a very special bat from a highly trusted source - a AS Powerbow - I am stuck with 2 amazing bats now, but don't regret it as such bats don't come very often.

Bats from top quality timber will always appreciate in value - worth holding on IMO.

Standard profile i believe. Was bought from Pro Cricket Direct so shouldnt think it is any different from the norm.

Going on Norbs approach, which one do you like the best? Keep that one.

I'd love to keep both but there is just no point, i hardly use my current bat let alone anymore!

As for the pick-up etc. I prefer the feel of the Redback but like the size adjustments of the H4L plus the middle feels slightly higher which would maybe suit me more.

I'm gonna try the Hattori out in a friendly on Sunday as its already been used/played in and see what i think

Looked more like a Surefire to me, my allegiance didn't have that low-er middle

The middle on the Redback does look a little low.
It almost looks like a custom Redback......

The pics on the Redback website all have the allegiance with what looks like a very low middle.

The Allegiance middle looks lower than ones I have seen in the past, quite M&H S6/ Solution in fact. Very nice though and may recommend one to my S6 loving mate having seen that

i'm sure the Redback forum user will be able to clear it up :)

I'd keep the redback.
I have a Solution and a Hattori (and a Talisman T20, dubbed the Tally-wacker  ;)) and I'm finding the Solution is used is being used more. Although it has a low middle, I find it easier for me to use.
Probably meaning that if I were to get some Cric Tec Sheets I'd be more suited to a lower middled bat.
What is your home deck like? Slow Dorsetshire tracks aid my Millichamp!
I'd probably sell my Hattori.

My home deck is slow, like many of the others in my league. I have always used bats with a reasonably low middle so both of the bats should suit me. I am sure they will be perform well so its probably just a case of picking the nicer stickers.... which is a hard one!!!

James

You should never have opened the Redback!!  Once you've used the Hattori in your friendly though, I'm pretty sure you'll like it, tough choice indeed!

If you are getting on well with the H4L and are happy with the bat, then just send the Redback back (assuming its still within the return period).

If for some reason you cannot send it back, I am sure this will be a very nice addition to the Sale thread and would not last for long - a Redback for £167+postage is deal of the day :) Can see many holding on to their pockets to get their hands on this beauty. :) ;)

I would keep the Redback if your playing on a low track as its got a very low middle but the middle looks to extend nearly all the way up the blade...a very nice stick indeed.

I love the fact that some are saying one, some are saying the other!  >:(
Only you can decide fella!

But let us know as this is better than Eastenders. Mind you, that's not saying a lot!

This could be a new topic on its own - CricTec had a totally different opinion - I think this warrants a debate :)

Like I siad, which do you like best? When you pick it up and wave it about, which one jangles your feel sensors the most? ;)

To be brutally honest, I wouldn't care what anyone else thought, they haven't held them and ward them round. Have a swing around with them and decide which you like best, after all, it's your bat! :)

Redback. Beautiful straight grains and looks a beauty. And a pretty good deal at that price too for a bat of that quality willow.
