Title: M&H Solution
Post by: WABH-J on August 17, 2012, 05:39:11 PM
Hello all,

I picked up a friend's M&H Solution the other day and it felt absolutely perfect for me, can't explain why! Anyway I really fancy one but being an M&H they are buttock tremblingly expensive. Does anyone know of a bat with a similar shape that is perhaps a little cheaper?

Here is an image of the side view:

M&H Original Low

£150

Yes, the Original Low is exactly the same shape as the Solution, but much cheaper.  M&H are apparently selling it for a bit less than we are at the moment, though!  :-[

Have it in stock in 2.10 and 2.11: http://www.itsjustcricket.co.uk/cricket-bats-c17/senior-cricket-bats-c18/millichamp-hall-original-low-cricket-bat-p348

I'd say the redback allegiance has a similar profile. Maybe worth a look...

You could argue that, but doesn't it make you feel more special, Steve, knowing that you are one of a select few with these elusive 10% codes?!  ;)

So there's no difference between the solution and the original low than the price?

I think there is a different in the grade of wood? Or the Solution is made with an O/S cleft or something like that.

Yep, the MH Solution Low is Grade 2 willow but still a good buy for £150.

Jack is right - the Original Low actually has two gradings and the one we were referring to is the grade 1 one, which is £200 RRP and the G2 is £150 RRP.  The Solution is also available in 2 gradings, the grade 1 is £300 RRP and the grade 2 is £250 RRP.

It's quite strange when you think the G1 Original Low costs a lot less than the G2 Solutions, especially as they're exactly the same shape!

Basically M&H prefer the cosmetics on the Solution a lot more, and that's the only difference they revealed to me.  To be fair, even the Grade 1 Original Lows have blemishes, but apparently the same can't really be said for the Solution.  How this warrants a £100 difference in cost, though, I'll never know, and that's why we only stock the Original Low!

Matt, I think you've got confused from what I'd told you before.  The Solutions aren't made from an oversized cleft - the Master, Distinction and Amplus are, and that's why their grade 2 bats are more expensive than the Original Low grade 1.  This (kind of) makes sense to me, given how unique their respective shapes are and the amounts of wood involved, but the difference in cost between the Solution and the Original Low is more baffling for me...
