Found a big kahuna in the bin at my club today!
It isnt even badly broken just a large chunk missing on the inside edge, it is not even the whole edge and its not even cracked its just as if the top bit of willow has fallen off... so now this bit is a lot lower than the rest of an otherwise lovely bat.
-
Ask a manufacturer maybe? not sure what you could do though?
-
could you post a pic of it leo?
-
A pic would be helpful!
If there's not too much wood missing, my personal suggestion is woodglue then a few layers of fibretape over the top and that might well sort it.
-
Yeh pic would be great
-
Depends on the size of the chunk, if it's large you'd have to saw out the inside edge to get a clean line then do the same on an old piece of willow. Then glue and peg this to the broken bat, sand down and then it's repaired.
-
Better to just replace the missing part and glue the rest, straight lines are not as strong for bonding as variable ones. Obviously, only if possible, you can create a new chunk if needed.
-
Sorry for pic quality as theyre taken on my phone...

EDIT: I HAVE FIXED THIS NOW... SEE NEXT PAGE :)
-
Throw it in the bin, buy a new one lol...
-
I found it in a bin lol
-
Hammer a few nails into it from the edge then cover in fibreglass tape and scuff sheet.
-
did you check the bin for the other piece?
-
yh I did but it wasn't there. I will probably cut another piece of willow off another bat and stick it in as its a nice bat.
12 grains
1/4 heartwood
2lb 10 or so
Bounced a ball on it and it has a great middle.
-
how you going to bind the foreign bit of wood?
-
Superglue and bat tape
-
I wouldnt superglue that one... thats very much a PVA job. Only use superglue for little hairline cracks that you cant 'open up' to get pva in.
-
Oooo saved me there Gary, thanks. Any idea how I would cut the actual wood off the old bat to stick to this? Its an old woodworm that I cut down for a middling bat.
-
Bin hocker! :D
-
I did feel like a bit of a tramp ;)
-
I think you may just have to literally cut a chunk out of the Woodworm and then slice it, if you get my jist? Then PVA it down with plenty of glue, and quite a few layers of Fibretape. Shame it's lost the chunk cos it looks quite nice.
-
Well I've attempted to fix the Kookabura Big Kahuna today...
As you can see the chunk out of the bottom has been sorted, I have just noticed in the pictures that a small bit of grain is peeling up which will need to be stuck down.

What do you guys think? 8)
-
looks good, you can hardly notice where it has been broken.
-
you got the grain to match?
blatantly just went back to the ground looking for the old piece!
out of the 4 bats your have (fusion, redback, ce, kook) i swear you have only paid for 1 which was the redback for £40?
-
those grains match pretty perfectly! must be the old bit right?
-
I still think getting a batmaker would be better because that bat could be really good, and tom did you get my pm?
Cheers
-
Lol Liam I didn't fit a piece of wood, in the end. I just did a bit of sanding and planing :)
This bat really pings!
-
Looks pretty handy work though ;)
-
Good piece of work not bad for something you found in a bin lol
-
Handy work, great value seeing as you found it in the bin!

Good Job a batmaker in the making ;)
-
Speaking of that I did have a plane at my kashmir cleft... it took ages to take a tiny amount off lol... managed to smooth it out a bit though so I guess I achieved something!
-
So what happens from here ?
a) Keep it for own use
b) Find and give back to previous owner
c) eBay job!
