Title: Movember
Post by: safbats on September 13, 2012, 09:38:56 PM
Guys

If you've known SAF for a fair few years you know Movember is one of the charities closets to our hearts

I'm starting this up early this year because I want a bigger take up and therefore money raised for this cause!

I think this is a one off in the bat market.......

We are offering a chance to be a bat maker for the day....  The day will consist of the following

In the morning we will pick out a cleft from a choice of at least 20  - 30 clefts.
Our supplier only gives us Grade 1++++ clefts ;) so there are no low grade clefts and you'll have me wittering on about choice at the same time

We will then press your cleft. I will try and explain, based on the cleft, why we are pressing the cleft in that manner and you will defiantly be asked to pass the cleft through the press at some stage if not all the time....

The bat will then be spliced, you can run the jig if you like and the handle placement done.....  Handle selection, cutting and placement is up to you... Set forwards, backwards or Straight!!!!

Whist the glue is setting...... hmmmm

Lunch in my local, that is on me, no beers though we can do that later!!!!!

Ok back to workshop...

Drawknife, planes and profile shaping all to be explained as much as you want. So really done by yourself with as much guidance as you like... [This is optional but I'd love you to work on it as much as you can]

Then sanding, all done by you :D Ok we'd finish it together with a polish... Binding, stickering in a bat cover and done...

Well almost.... back to local pub for a beer...!!!!!

How about a raffle for us cheap skates and an auction for those with cash to flash? Means you'd have to do it twice, but you can also raise extra cash

Maybe Johnny but I want it to be accessible to everyone...so I might have run 2 offers..

Prostate cancer hit me closely this year, so I want to gain as much as I can so we can raise awareness for all of us blokes that say "Ah it is alright"

Perhaps one draw with raffle tickets for those who want to contribute and another for those who sign up, join movember and raise cash. The overall forum cash raised will be much higher

I think you will raise more by doing one experience by raffle and one by selling the experience to the highest bidder.

Hi Andy,

Quick question. Are you still doing the 'highest auction' aspect as well as the raffle donation - if so I cannot see where to bid! Might help to drum up bids if we know how!  :D

Or have I been blind and just missed the details!
