Title: The value for money thread
Post by: Colesy on September 18, 2012, 06:43:38 PM
Ok. So what part of your cricket kit, past or present, has been the best value for money?

As the majority of my kit doesn't last more than 2 seasons I don't get the most out of it. I've had my Ayrtek lid for 3 years now but have never been hit, so that's ruled out. My two would be my GM Icon 606 which cost me £106.50 and have got 800+ runs with it and is still relatively new, or my Ayrtek Elite bat which was a replacement for my original which cost £150 and I got 1254 runs with (stato).

So over to you.

It's gotta be the box, should last a full career and can save lives

My Laver was £250 and came with a free net bat. It's now had 5 full seasons so has easily earned its keep.

My Oakley set up cost around £200 but I've worn them for every game if cricket I've played for the last 9 years so have had my money's worth there too.

Does clothing count? I have club jumpers and caps that have had years of use.

Ive been through 4 boxes this year somehow  :o 2 broke and 1 dissapeared.

My best value for money kit has to be the kookaburra diablo i used to have it didnt cost a huge amount and it lasted for 3 seasons as my match bat and i have never had a bat that was more enjoyable to use since.  :(

All my kit was was new this year (or new to me) but I think the bit of kit that will be best value for the £s is my Box.. :) worst value for money is double decker albion bag.

My Newbery Thruxton 5 star was £92, 3 yrs ago. Scored 2,000 plus runs and gets a refurb every year. It's still a gun and seen off a Laver PB, A GM Luna Original and a Redback Paradox and this year it will rival my 2 blank bat's as my no.1!!

:D

normally wear through the heels of boots quickly. Gloves last a season, maybe 2. Bats tend to eventually break. I have some morrant ultralight pads that are 10 years old. Pads I guess.

Best value, is probably my first set of Aero Strippers. They lasted about 5/6 years before I replaced them this season. Worst value is probably my M&H Solution, I'm too scared to use it as I think it's just too perfect haha

Nice topic Colesy . I bought a 22 grained Woodstock of CI forum for £ 45 and a 12 grained Puma 6000 carbo handle from CB for £ 90 . Both of them are absolute guns.

Well I had a Purist II which I didn't technically pay for (but didn't steal) and got a fair few runs with that ;)

Didn't think about worst vfm. Probably some grips I've used once or twice then changed for another haha

I had a Newbery Mjolnir 5 star that lasted me 3/4 seasons and is still going strong in a mates hands for the last 2 seasons. It is a sublime bat. Beautiful middle, picks up great. I think it cost me £135 in an end of season sale. It's still one of the best bats I've ever had performance wise. When you take into account how long it has lasted it has to be the best value piece of kit I've had. I remember spending absolutely hours knocking it in....maybe that was the difference? Being conscientious??

Bought a GM Duellist Original LE in 2006/7, combined pocket money saved up with combined Christmas/Birthday present from the parents to get it, must've been about £200+ and used it for 5 seasons, probably got 3000+ runs out of it! Was an absolute gun and scored my first ton and all but my first 50 with it. It's had to be repaired twice this season and still having second thoughts about getting rid of it and it's still pretty brilliant!

I picked up a Woodworm Torch Performance from eBay for £30.00, was lovely and went like the clappers - however then I found this forum and started going a bit mad with bats and gave it to a friend. 3 Seasons on and it's still going strong!

The hunts county insignia  5 crown I got in 2000 as an instead of on an order I had placed for the honeycomb backed one because they were having issues with the honeycomb. Used it for seven seasons until it cracked all the way up the face. Lovely bat it was too.

My GN Nitro extreme.  Bought for £100.  Had it 4/5 years now.  Hasn't seen much use this season due to adding to my collection, but still goes like a train!

Probably my GM Hero - bought for £120 4 seasons ago and has scored about 3,000 runs.  Its still going strong and only stopped using it recently to give the H4L a go (which was rather successful!!!) :D

Newbery Excalibur - cost me £56 about 25 or more years ago and back then it was a lot cheaper than a Jumbo, Tusker or Magnum. Still have it and might still be useable but wouldn't like to risk it (too heavy for me these days though). Current squeeze is a Salix Pod from IJC with their Olympic 30% discount - outstanding vfm.
