Is there anyone else fed up with seeing recycled or similar shapes and the "company" <---- I say company because they aren't bat a maker getting kudos for it....

Try a brand that they say they make it but all they do is sand a shape.... and say they hand make

im pretty sure they can make bats but dont or dont make many,
i remember that sky video of M&H and in back ground nothing was being done to the bat lol

I sand bats down does that mean I'm a batmaker? I've got a sander, 2 grades of sandpaper and everything!

it's more complicated than that - you need to take the scuff sheet off first or use nail polish remover lol

I'm just slightly annoyed that people have the option available to them to create something and just go for stock shapes for all there bats...

norbs just spill the beans lol kook was not a bad shout as all the shapes are same as the sg bats,
but kook might have designed the shape and sg are using it even tho sg make them type thing...

Agreed, its just bloody lazy and as soon as someone pops up they go again... most thinking i can make a few quid but actually without a long term view you can't. like so many they sell to a few mates and then the scope of the task is a little too much for most people.
A little honesty wont do anyone any harm and i'm willing to stake my own money on it.
In comparison to some others i have been making my own shape by hand then sending them off to people I know or have met to see who can reproduce them "by hand" and allow me to make numbers.
Even this does not make me a bat maker but it does make me try to at least vary what is out there and improve in areas i feel i can. The simple relabelling job is one that many undertake, many poorly and all competing year on year for a tiny % of market share only to be undone by the next set of labels.
Once you can actually add something to the pot, innovate and convert knowledge/passion into something viable then you will be fighting innertia and be limited in what you can do.
A bat, is a bat is a bat.... not my words but from someone many of you all revere and said to me when i first started looking at getting to "know" not speculate about the industry itself.
If you are in this trade you are in it for the love first and money is a bonus at least to keep you in the industry itself. The whole package is ready for a little shake and i believe its not too far away. ;)

Couldn't agree more. If I can take a pressed cleft and turn it into a bat, then quite frankly, as the quote says... And even when I take some more weight off it, it will still be a bat...

Whilst this is a hugely interesting topic. I think posts such as this only damage the reputation of British batmakers. Because on here you can only allude, rather than outright state - it leads to generalised posts like this. Whereby people guess or presume you're on about a certain brand, when you were actually posting about a whole other company.
Salix this year have put out a '100% made, pressed, handled by Salix Cricket bats here in the UK' sticker. And I don't think that's a surprise, given some of the accusations and assumptions which fly around

Exactly if you have any passion for this and it is not just a I'd like to be bat retailer there is no need to do it but please give it a spine ;)

yeah ^^^ i saw that andrews wife( i think) was stressing how important that this was and pointed out all the stickers etc, they where really pushing the in house concept! "batmaking benchmark"

Agreed also Tom and I should hang my head in shame, that said to clarify the annoyance isnt those that create there own shapes it those that grab stock shapes and list as there own.

In terms of being able to discuss this topic on this forum, whilst it's unacceptable to starting speculating that company A's bat is made by batmaker B, I don't see any problems with making the point that company A don't make their own bats

You know what, I would love to see this info as a sticky thread. Every forum sponsor or bat maker can voluntarily put this information down (note it's not for forum members to guess or say a mate told me so). Then you wouldn't get these kind of threads cropping up every now and again. If some batmakers don't want to participate then it's up to them but it can't do any harm for the rest of us to be better informed?

Not sure about the direct made by... but if most pre made shapes are designed by the source company it tells you all you need to know.

on a public forum you have to contend with non disclosure agreements...
With a simple form or a quick discussion with the retailer you can find out....

The problem is heresay...
If its not a forum sponsor it doesn't really matter.. Does it? That's what an open forum is about isn't it? Using the knowledge from others to make informed decisions.
Heresay and guesses can damage reputations but truths can't hurt anyone

I have no problem putting down about vulcan bats at all are cheap bats and most of are kids bats are brought in from asia and rest all made here in england
